Chapter 60 Bai Ting becomes a disciple
Confucius stayed at Gao's mansion
Confucius was teaching "Poetry" to his disciples.

"Guan Guan Jiujiu, in the river island. A graceful lady, a gentleman likes to fight.

Staggered Nymphaea, left and right.Fair lady, I long for it.

poo.Leisurely leisurely, tossing and turning.

There are different kinds of watercress, pick them from left to right.A graceful lady, she is a friend of the piano and the harp.

There are different kinds of watercress, with leaves on both sides. The fair lady is played with bells and drums. "

The disciples followed Confucius in reciting. After reciting it, Confucius asked: "We have studied this poem for a long time. Every time I read it, my mood will be very different. Do you know why I read this poem today?"

Zeng Dian replied: "Master, is it because of Duke Qi?"

Confucius said: "Yes! Duke Qi was obviously interested in my governance methods before, but I don't know when it changed. Now, although he treats me very respectfully, he never asks me anything about governance. This way. If so, how can my ideal be realized, and when should your Majesty return to the State of Lu?"

At this time, Zhong Yu said angrily: "There must be some villain who is causing trouble. Otherwise, how could the Master not be reused by Qi Gong with his opinions and personality charm?"

Confucius looked at Zhong You who looked unjust and said: "You! There are two situations when others do not accept my proposition. One is that my proposition is flawed, and the other is that my proposition harms his interests.

If there is a flaw, we must correct it in time. If it harms his interests, then it depends on his position. If it is the opposite of the country and the people, then we must resolutely get rid of him.

Rather than enjoying ourselves here, let's think about whether our proposition is still flawed. If it really doesn't work, then don't seek to govern Qi and help your Majesty return home first! "

After hearing this, Zhong You stood up and saluted Confucius and said, "Zhong You has been taught."

Just as Confucius asked Zhong You to sit down and continue his lecture, a disciple said: "There is a man outside the door coming to visit you."

Confucius asked who it was, and his disciple said, "He said he was Fang Xiang."

Confucius and the disciples who had met Fang Xiang were very surprised when they heard that it was Fang Xiang, so Confucius said to his disciples: "You come with me to welcome Master Fang!" The disciples raised their hands and said yes.

The disciples outside the door brought Fang Xiang and the other two people into the courtyard. After both parties saluted, they each took their seats. Confucius asked for details: "Didn't Master say that he would return to Bai Kingdom to retire? Is there something going on in Xunqiu today?"

Fang Xiang smiled and said, "That's right! Do you still remember Bai Yu, the Crown Prince of Bai Kingdom?"

Confucius nodded, and Fang Xiang led Bai Ting out and introduced him: "This is Bai Ting's son. Bai Yu has been wanting to communicate with you since he returned home, but he was tied up with political affairs and could not come. He knows that you are knowledgeable. He is of noble character, so let me bring him to you as your disciple.”

Bai Ting stepped forward and saluted: "My dear Bai Ting, I have met Confucius."

Bai Ting breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that Confucius was not like Chi You. He also saw that although Confucius was tall and tall, he had a gentle face. He did not look like a general fighting on the battlefield, but had a temperament similar to that of the old scholar in Bai's library.

Confucius returned the favor and asked Fang Xiang again: "I heard that the Bai State has a school, and there are many knowledgeable people in it. Why are you looking for me, Confucius?"

Fang Xiang explained: "Since the prince talked with you, he thinks that you have the qualifications of Duke Zhou. Although there are many knowledgeable people in Bai Kingdom, there are very few people who are good at teaching disciples. However, Bai Ting has an out-of-touch temperament. It's not easy to discipline, so the prince wants you to teach him."

Confucius nodded, indicating that he understood, and turned to Bai Ting and asked: "Are you willing to become my teacher?"

Bai Ting said at this time: "Being you as my teacher is arranged by my father. You asked me if I am voluntary. Of course not, but if you can answer my three questions, and if the answers are correct, I will voluntarily become you as my teacher."

When Zhong Yu saw that Bai Ting wanted to take the exam for Confucius, he couldn't help but got up and said angrily: "If you want to worship, then worship. Why is there so much nonsense? If you don't want to become a disciple, just go by yourself."

Confucius scolded: "Zhong Yu!"

Seeing that Confucius was angry, Zhong You had to sit down sadly. At this time, he only heard Confucius say: "When people come to worship me as their teacher, they must know whether I am worthy of the name. In addition, if they want to become a master, they must be able to bear it." Ask, if it doesn’t work, why should I be a master?”

Then he looked at Zhong Yu with a smile and said, "Besides, when you came to be my apprentice, didn't you also compete with me in archery skills?"

All the disciples laughed after hearing this. Zhong You couldn't help but feel a little embarrassed when he saw this, and said stiffly: "Can it be the same?"

Confucius educated: "Why is it different? Think about your original thoughts and then put yourself in Bai Ting's situation. It's just that the methods are different. What's the purpose? In addition, it's not terrible to be wrong. What's terrible is that you know you're wrong and don't change."

After hearing this, Zhong You knew it was his mistake, so he saluted Confucius and said, "Disciple, I know I was wrong!" Confucius nodded and said, "I still have to apologize to Bai Ting."

Zhong Yu hesitated for a moment, then saluted Bai Ting and said, "It was my fault. Please forgive me."

Seeing this scene, Bai Ting admired Confucius a little, so he returned Zhongyou's greeting and said, "What's wrong with defending your master?"

When Zhong You heard this, he immediately felt that he had found a soulmate, so his attitude became more sincere. When Bai Ting saw that Zhong You was very straightforward, his good impression doubled.

At this time, Confucius asked Bai Ting: "What do you want to ask me? Please ask!"

Bai Ting saluted solemnly and asked: "How can the world be stabilized and how can the common people live a prosperous life?"

Confucius thought for a moment and then replied: "According to etiquette and law, if you want the world to be stable, you need order in the world, and etiquette and law are the means to maintain order. As long as the kings, ministers, fathers, and sons in the world are in their own way, how can the world not be stable? Come down, don't you see that during the reign of Duke Zhou, the world was in order, and the princes and people all performed their own rituals, and then there was a prosperous and prosperous age!

As for the prosperity of the common people, only when the world is stable can the common people become wealthy. If the world is in chaos, even if there is a bumper harvest every year, it will not be able to stop the chaos of swords and weapons! "

Bai Ting asked again: "According to what you said, the king, the king, the minister, the father, the son, the son. Do the ministers have to obey the monarch unconditionally? Do the sons have to endure all the unreasonable demands of the father? The king can treat his ministers as he wants, and the father can do whatever he wants. Abuse your son?"

Confucius said: "This is not my opinion. The premise of my opinion is that the monarch must behave like a monarch. If the monarch does not behave like a monarch or even performs the responsibilities of a monarch, then he cannot be called a monarch. Ministers, fathers, and sons also the same.

The king cannot do anything that goes against the king's duties. If he does, the ministers have the responsibility to remind him. If the king still refuses to listen, he can no longer be regarded as a king and should be replaced.

However, ministers cannot step into the king's rights at will. If a minister exercises the king's rights and responsibilities, then he cannot be called a minister, and the world should condemn him. The same goes for the relationship between father and son. "

Bai Ting asked again: "What do you think of the behavior of arbitrarily squeezing the common people?"

Confucius said: "Even if a very talented person exploits the common people at will, everyone will punish him. Qiu believed that the common people are not consumables, but the foundation of the world."

After hearing this, Bai Ting immediately bowed to Confucius and said, "My disciple Bai Ting voluntarily worships Confucius as his teacher. He will treat his teacher as he treats his father. If there is any harm to the master, God will punish him."

Confucius was very happy to see that he had accepted another potential disciple. He said, "Bai Ting can ask these three questions, which shows that he has very insightful opinions on some things. I can get a disciple like you, just like Xia Ting." It’s as cool as eating iced melon during the day!”

Bai Ting was very happy to see this, so he asked Quan Ding to bring out his apprenticeship ceremony. Quan Ding brought a tray covered with red cloth. Confucius looked at Bai Ting questioningly and said, "Ting! When I accept disciples, I only need ten sticks of dried meat to teach them. There is no need for such a generous gift."

Bai Ting asked Confucius to open it and take a look. Confucius opened the red cloth and revealed the rolls of wooden slips inside. After looking through it, he saw only the first line of "Zhou Li". Confucius was very surprised and asked: "Is this really Zhou Li?"

Bai Ting replied respectfully: "Yes, this is the Zhou ritual that my ancestor of the Bai family sent to Luoyi to copy it when he was Duke of Zhou. However, this is not the original, but a copy. Originally, I couldn't take it out of the library."

Confucius looked at the strong historical atmosphere and said in disbelief: "Is it really a copy?"

Bai Ting said: "Of course, I couldn't bring him out originally!"

Confucius heard the same thing, and then he read the first volume carefully. After reading it, he carefully showed it to other disciples: "This is the Zhou rites formulated by Duke Zhou! It is so exquisite. You can see Cheng Kang from above. What a grand period! My heart is yearning for it!"

Then he carefully put the bamboo slips away and said to Bai Ting: "Ting! I really don't want to give up such a generous gift. If you have any questions in the future, please feel free to come to me, no matter what I am doing."

Hearing this, Zhong Yu was a little jealous and curled his lips. Bai Ting said yes, and then Confucius asked Bai Ting to sit among the disciples. Bai Ting looked at it and sat down next to Zhong You. Zhong You looked at Bai Ting and sat down next to him with a smile, and whispered: "Flattery!"

Bai Ting just sat down and didn't hear what Zhong Yu said clearly. He asked in a low voice. Zhong Yu smiled and said, "Congratulations, junior brother!" Bai Ting said with a smile, "Thank you, senior brother!" After that, the two of them were ready to listen to Confucius' lecture. .

Here Confucius reluctantly put Zhou Li aside, preparing to study behind closed doors after class. When Fang Xiang saw that Bai Ting had successfully paid homage to his disciples, he stood up and left. Confucius had to go to class, so he did not hold him back and sent him out in person.

Quan Ding was waiting outside the door for Bai Ting to finish class. By the way, he replaced Confucius' disciples and became the temporary concierge. He could still hear the lectures inside from time to time. Quan Ding thought in his heart: "I didn't become a disciple, I didn't." It’s great to be able to take classes for free after handing over your studies!”

Over here, Bai Country, Bai Mansion, Young Master's Study Room

Bai Yuzheng finished his day's political affairs and returned to his study, ready to take a volume of Zhou Li and take a look at it. It seemed that there was something wrong that he didn't understand last time.

Ten minutes later, I heard Bai Yu's angry roar coming from the study, "Bai Ting! You're a rip-off! Come back if you have the guts to see if I don't break your legs!"
