Chapter 73 The land of China does not support idle gods
[The land of China does not support idle gods, but rather believes that man can conquer nature]

[The Chinese nation may be the most special nation in the world. You say they have no faith! The gods in China are worshiped every day without repeating the same thing.

You say they have faith! Being a god in China is harder than working as a 996 worker every day, and even their KPI assessments are set by the Chinese.

Chinese gods are engaged in a service industry. As long as you are spiritual, it is no problem to burn incense and make offerings every day.

If it doesn't work, I'm sorry, I'll change to another god next time and continue worshiping.

The key is that when it comes to worshiping gods, the Chinese have quite double standards.

Since ancient times, we have a saying that the left eye will lead to wealth and the right eye will lead to disaster.

Once your left eye really jumps, regardless of whether it is true or not, you will definitely be happy all day long.

If it is the right eye that jumps, it must be due to feudal superstition.

In recent years, Western countries have been smearing us for not having faith.

There is a saying among Western missionaries that China is the most difficult place to preach because there is a problem with their attitude towards God. It is not that they do not believe, but that they believe selectively.

In the nineteenth century, Western missionaries tried to introduce God to us.

At the beginning, a group of Chinese people listened very carefully to the missionaries' lectures.

But after hearing this, the people not only did what they were supposed to do, but even muttered.

"Why hasn't the church started distributing anything today? It's not working, how can you make me believe you?"

In 2022, there was news that Jiang, a 59-year-old man from Lishui, Zhejiang, took his son and smashed seven temples in a rage because he failed to win a lottery ticket.

It turns out that Jiang has a hobby, which is buying lottery tickets.

After failing to win the prize after repeated purchases, Jiang began to believe in God.

He went to several temples not far from his home, placed tributes, lit incense, and began to pray devoutly.

After burning incense and praying, he spent thousands of yuan to buy lottery tickets.

At first, he thought that maybe he was too eager, or that the Buddha was still testing his sincerity.

But more than half a year has passed, and I still haven’t won the prize after spending so much money on it.

In December 2021, Jiang became more and more angry. He felt that even the gods only used incense and did nothing. He was so angry that he took advantage of the silence of the night and started destroying the Buddha statues in the temple with a big hammer.

What was even more egregious was that he asked his son to take him on a bicycle to smash the gods and Buddhas in several other nearby temples.

You said he doesn't believe in gods and Buddhas. Every time he buys lottery tickets, he still thinks of going to the temple to pray to gods.

You say he believes in gods and Buddhas. Such things as serially smashing Buddha statues are not something that believers would do.

Why is it said that the land of China does not support idle gods?

You will know just by looking at how strict their KPI assessment is.

In terms of the number of immortals, there are at least a thousand.

In terms of division of labor, if you want wealth, you have the God of Wealth, if you want marriage, you have the God of Wealth, and if you want to not fail the exam, you can find Manjushri Bodhisattva.

Generally speaking, we are relatively devout in the process of praying to God, but if it doesn't work, then that's a different matter.

In 1927, there was a severe drought in Shandong, especially in Jinan, where production almost ceased.

As an official in Shandong Province, Zhang Zongchang wanted to provide disaster relief to the people, but he instead prayed to the Dragon King for rain, and even composed an impromptu poem at the Dragon King Temple.

“Grandpa Jade Emperor’s surname is also Zhang!”

"Why are you so hard on me, Zhang Zongchang!"

"It won't rain for three days!"

"Let's dig out the Dragon King Temple first!"

"Blast with the cannon again!"

You must not think that he is just joking, Zhang Zongchang is doing enough foreplay and laying out the tributes.

However, God did not give face to him and it never rained. Now Zhang Zongchang was angry.

When he came to the Dragon King Temple, he cursed angrily at the statue, and even called in artillery to blast the sky.

The miraculous result was that not long after, heavy rain poured down, which was regarded as early artificial rainfall.

Chinese people respect gods but do not fear them, and strictly implement the concept that the land of China does not raise idle gods.

Of course, even if you are a god and your abilities are too strong, you cannot act recklessly.

Hou Yi's shooting of the sun is a perfect example. One sun is enough, but you chose ten of them to work together, making the people miserable.

Hou Yi did not tolerate them. He killed nine of them with a big bow and arrow. If it were not for his fear of the dark, he might not have been able to save the last single seedling.

Another example is that in ancient times, the water god of the Huaihe River lost his temper based on his own ability.

As a result, Dayu beat him violently after catching him, and then suppressed him at the foot of Guishan Mountain in Huaiyin.

Therefore, the Chinese people believe in God and are not afraid of God. They also believe that man can conquer nature.

Western countries have always had a question: Why are there so many gods in China, but all Chinese people are atheists?
From myths and legends, we can see the essential difference.

The origin of human beings in Western legends is that God created the world and by the way created two people, Adam and Eve, who were just the lowest servants.

Later, they made a mistake by tasting the forbidden fruit and were kicked out of the Garden of Eden.

Since then, mankind has carried the original sin from generation to generation.

The Chinese mythology is like this, we originated from Pangu Nuwa.

After Pangu created the world, his blood turned into rivers and his body turned into mountains and rivers.

In this case, Nuwa created the human race from water and soil, which means that human beings are all children of God.

It was also a flood, but we worked together and worked together to finally solve the flood.

In the West, they were grateful that God asked Noah to build the ark and helped them escape the disaster.

The beliefs of Chinese people are fundamentally different from those of Western countries.

They surrender to God and are His servants.

And we believe in God and are not afraid of God, and we believe that man can conquer heaven.

We have always believed that seeking for others is better than seeking for yourself. The Chinese people are constantly striving for self-improvement and are always successful.

Compared with the lofty gods and Buddhas, we believe more in Grandpa Yuan, who keeps us fed, and the people's soldiers who save us from danger.

The only belief of the Chinese nation is that bright red flag.

Respect heaven and earth, believe in yourself, this is what Chinese people are! 】

"Chinese national beliefs are various relationships maintained by the affection of parents, brothers and sisters"

"Hahaha, it's true that my eyelids twitch. I do it too. My right eye has been twitching for more than half a month."

"Suggesting incense is just an advance payment. After it works, it's called the final payment. It doesn't work, haha."

"Chinese people have faith and believe in their ancestors. If you don't believe it and dare to dig up their graves, they will risk their lives for you."

"Human beings need faith, but not superstition, just be rational"

"Many gods were canonized by ancient emperors"

"Seeking marriage now, also asking God God, instead of seeking the Moon Old", "The Land of the Chinese Land is not a leisure god, they are all diligent people cultivated into immortals"

"I go to the Wuye Temple in Wutai Mountain, Shanxi every Spring Festival to pray. It is really crowded and the incense is very strong."

"Our gods are humans and all things in the world. As long as we practice with concentration, we have the chance to become gods."

"Chinese gods all have prototypes in history. In the final analysis, they are still worshiped by their ancestors."

"The god with the best treatment in China should be the God of Wealth."

"The degree of Chinese people's focus on gods and beliefs mainly depends on whether they are spiritual or not"

"If my left eye jumps, something good is going to happen to me." The right eye jumps, even feudal superstitious dogs don’t believe it”

"The fundamental principle is that if you don't accept money, you can't get it done, but if you get money and you don't do it, you must get it back."

"I sneer at feudal superstition, but I cannot afford to kneel before the Temple of Wealth."

"Most Chinese people's belief in God is that they don't need money anyway, so they should believe in it more or less."

"If Heaven is ruthless and fights with Heaven, if God is not clear, God will be destroyed"

"When something happens, I ask God, and the Jade Emperor, Tathagata, Buddha, Sanqing, Taoist ancestors, Guanyin, Bodhisattva, God, etc. all appear, and the thing is done, and I really do it."

"God of Wealth: I can take care of things that Yue Lao can take care of, and I can take care of things that Yue Lao can't take care of"

"Most of the gods in China are ancestors. The virtuous and talented ancestors were worshiped as gods after their death."

Ancient people from all dynasties and generations under the sky cherished the importance of praying to gods and worshiping Buddha. After all, it is normal for any family not to pray to gods and worship Buddha when something happened.

When you encounter something difficult, go to the temple and worship.

When something happy happens, go to the temple to make a wish or something.

Even if nothing happens, as long as you pass by, regardless of the temple, you will go in and pay homage.

The reason why they are so keen on praying to gods and worshiping Buddha is that they are unable to do many things, so they can only put their hope in various gods and goddesses.

They are just ordinary civilians. Once they encounter any difficulties, it will really make the world not respond and the earth will not work. They can only resign themselves to their fate.

In this helpless situation, the only way to pray to God and worship Buddha is to have some sustenance in your heart and avoid falling into despair.

Especially the common people who are in the midst of a severe drought or in the last years of the dynasty when wars rage against the sky, they are even more enthusiastic about praying to gods and worshiping Buddha.

The external environment makes them despair. At this time, they can only pray to gods and Buddhas, hoping that gods can save them from suffering, so that they can have spiritual sustenance.

In fact, many times, they do not really believe in all kinds of gods and Buddhas, but they approach gods and Buddhas with a utilitarian attitude.

As people in later generations say, if you are useful, then worship it.

But if it doesn't work, then I'm sorry and just smash the statue.

In their eyes, praying to gods and worshiping Buddha can be said to be a conventional contract.

We sacrificed to you and gave you incense, so you should do things for us.

If you accept our incense but don't do anything, then don't blame us for being rude.

Just like when there is a severe drought in the world, they will prepare a grand ceremony to sacrifice to the Dragon King, with all kinds of tributes and incense, just to pray that the Dragon King can send rain.

But if it hadn't rained after the sacrifice, they wouldn't be polite to the Dragon King and would just have him carried out of the Dragon King Temple and left in the sun for a few days.

If after the exposure, the Dragon King still refuses to show any respect, the Dragon King statue will end up being smashed.

Great Qin.

Ying Zheng: I don’t know any of these gods. They must have appeared later!
He looked at the gods and Buddhas, the Jade Emperor, Tathagata Buddha, Sanqing Taoist Patriarch, Guanyin Bodhisattva, etc. with great confusion. He didn't know what ability they had to allow future generations to worship them.

If it was effective, he wouldn't mind building a few temples in Daqin for people to worship.

However, he could see that future generations had no respect for gods, and worshiping them was just a formality.

People in later generations do not believe in the gods of all walks of life, and he also does not believe in the gods of Da Qin.

The reason why he allowed the people of Qin to worship the temple without sending anyone to smash the sculptures was just to make it easier to control the people of the world.

Rather than trusting others, he is more willing to believe in himself and believe that he can conquer nature.

He was able to unify the world and become the First Emperor only by himself, not by the help of some gods.

As later generations said, China's belief is not in gods, but in its own ancestors.

Every year on important days, he would organize a sacrificial ceremony to worship his ancestors, praying that the ancestors would bless the Qin Kingdom and its people.

Da Qin can be where he is today, and he can be where he is today, because his ancestors have made great contributions, so he must pay tribute and worship him.

Datang.

Li Shimin quite agreed with what later generations said, that most of the gods were canonized by emperors of various dynasties.

It's like he once consecrated the gods, and now he still remembers it freshly when he thinks about it!
There was a severe drought in Shaanxi, and he went to inspect the distribution of disaster relief food funds.

When passing through Wugong County, I saw many villagers with sad faces burning incense at the Chenghuang Temple to pray for rain, and I couldn't help but feel very sad.

At that time, he ran to the Chenghuang Temple to worship and make a wish.

"The city god has a spirit. If you can send down the rain in time and save the lives of the people in the world, you will be considered as helping me to implement the new policy. I will definitely make you a first-class Fu De King."

After making the wish, the sky was clear and cloudy in the afternoon, and it rained in the evening.

It rained continuously for five days and five nights, giving the people a bumper harvest that year.

He immediately fulfilled his promise and issued an edict to inform the world that the Town God's Temple in Wugong County was changed to the Capital City God's Temple. The City God was rewarded with a crown, court uniforms, a golden body, and virtues.

Ming dynasty.

Chongzhen: So many people in later generations went to Wutai Mountain to worship Wuye Temple. Is it possible that Wuye Temple is really so spiritual?

Naturally, he has heard of Mount Wutai. After all, Mount Wutai is the first of the four famous mountains in Buddhism.

As for the Wuye Temple on Mount Wutai, he had never heard of it.

He saw in the video that Wuye Temple was full of people burning incense and praying for blessings. The scene was really spectacular. He thought that Wuye Temple must be very spiritual, otherwise the incense would not be so strong.

He was thinking about whether to go to Wuye Temple to pray for blessings that the Ming Dynasty would be able to reverse the situation and bring peace to the country and the people.

He has absolutely no idea what to do now. Although he is diligent, loves the people, and handles government affairs conscientiously, the situation in the Ming Dynasty is getting worse and worse, and he is exhausted physically and mentally.

Now besides praying to God and worshiping Buddha, he doesn't know how to change everything.

If the Wuye Temple is really effective, he can personally go to Mount Wutai and pray to Manjusri Bodhisattva to protect the Ming Dynasty from disaster.

He originally did not believe in gods and Buddhas, thinking that these were just spiritual sustenance for ignorant people to escape reality.

After all, since the Ming Dynasty came to the throne, there have either been natural or man-made disasters here, or people have rebelled there. In short, there has not been a single day of good news.

For this reason, he did not know how many gods and Buddhas he worshiped, hoping that the situation in Ming Dynasty would improve.

But in the end, none of them were efficacious, so he did not believe in gods and Buddhas.

But now that Tianmu appeared, he began to believe in the existence of gods. Otherwise, how could Tianmu explain it!
In his opinion, the appearance of the sky curtain is a magical means.

Compared with the Wuye Temple where later generations worshiped, he was more willing to believe in Tianmu.

After all, it seems that Tianmu is more hopeful that he can help him solve the dilemma encountered by Daming.

He silently prayed in his heart that Tianmu could show Daming a way to survive.
