Chapter 82 Program

After waiting in the lounge for nearly half an hour, Marshal Trafalgar and Defense Secretary Miller finally waited until the president ended the meeting.

On their way to the President's Office full of anger, they happened to bump into a group of people coming out of the reception room.

It looked like the 'important guest' the Federal President had just met with.

When the two sides passed each other and walked some distance away, Marshal Trafalgar said expressionlessly:

"If I read correctly, these are all people from giant companies and the military-industrial complex, right?"

"Yes, there are also representatives from Deep Space Mining and Gabriel Biotech."

Secretary of Defense Miller walked to a position parallel to Field Marshal Trafalgar, his face equally expressionless.

"Well, meeting these people at this time is starting to prepare for next year's general election, right?"

"Eighty percent is true. Our dear President's opinion poll data in the past two years are not very good. If you want to continue to be re-elected, you can only consider cooperating with these giant companies."

"Re-election. I heard that the President wants to make a major change in the top leadership of the federal army. If he is successfully re-elected, he might really start to attack us."

While talking, the two of them had arrived at the door of the President's Office.

"Let's not talk about these things for now. The most important thing is to let this guy quickly order the dispatch of the main fleet."

Marshal Trafalgar said coldly, then opened the door to the office and walked in first.

Looking at his old classmate whose personality had not changed in decades, Defense Secretary Miller shook his head helplessly and then walked in.

Behind the large desk, the current president of the Federation, 53-year-old Brandon, stood up immediately after seeing the two of them walking in, with his infectious and iconic smile on his face.

With his crisp suit, meticulously combed back hair, and tall and straight figure, Brandon is a perfect image of a federal elite politician in terms of appearance and age.

Coupled with the 'feat' of being born on an ordinary planet and admitted to the Department of Social Sciences of the Federal Central University, he joined the 'Federal Democratic Party' at school before graduating and met the noble man who changed his destiny - Thomas.

As a legendary member of the Capital Galaxy, Thomas was once the Chairman of the Administration Committee and the Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee of the Federal House of Representatives. He was a serious and powerful leader of the Federal Democratic Party.

After graduation, Brandon worked for Thomas as his assistant and stayed there for 15 years.

In the past fifteen years, working under such a big boss has allowed Brandon, who is good at playing both sides, to establish a large number of political relationships and accumulate a lot of political capital.

So after he really started to enter the political arena, Brandon quickly completed the magnificent transformation from an ordinary representative to a federal senator, and completed his impact on the federal president's throne at a golden age.

"You two have been waiting for a long time. I just helped you with a big thing!"

Brandon in the President's Office, although he didn't know why the expressions on the faces of these two 'veterans' were not very good, he still greeted them with a smile.

"Aurora Heavy Industries is willing to accept our adjusted and lowered quotation for the upgrade of part of the main fleet's heavy cruisers at the end of the year! This will save your navy a lot of military budget!"

Brandon's voice was very excited, as if he had done something terrible.

"Thank you, Mr. President, for your support of our navy, but now I have a more urgent matter to report to you."

Before Minister Miller could speak, Marshal Trafalgar stepped forward and interrupted the President's request for credit.

"We have just received urgent military information. The imperial fleet has launched an attack on our border system. This is an act of war. We must fight back immediately!"

"Wait. What?! The Imperial fleet attacks?"

The expression on Brandon's face became serious, but he obviously still didn't believe it. “Why was this situation not mentioned in the morning briefing?”

"Because this is news we just received, I was supposed to report it directly to you, but Your Excellency, President, is meeting with 'important guests', and we don't dare to disturb you."

The ridicule and displeasure in Marshal Trafalgar's tone were not concealed at all.

However, President Brandon did not show any embarrassment or dissatisfaction. As if he did not hear the underlying meaning of the old marshal's words, he sat down again, with a solemn expression on his face.

"Since the news was sent back from the border galaxy, judging from the transmission time, the empire actually launched the attack nearly twenty days ago?"

"Judging from the current situation, this is indeed the case, so we hope that you can order the main fleet to set off immediately to support the border system."

Secretary of Defense Miller speaks at a leisurely pace. When he and Marshal Trafalgar report to the president together, he usually plays the role of "white face".

After hearing his words, Brandon did not reply directly. He was silent for a while before looking up at the two old men.

“Has the source of this news been verified?”

"People have been arranged to find ways to quickly verify it. What we know so far is that the news of the attack came from Robert 4's Yasin base. The message claimed that Robert 4 was attacked by the imperial fleet."

"No more? Is this the only news?" Brandon asked.

"At present, there is only one piece of news that clearly states that it was attacked by the empire. But since Yasin Base has sent this message, no matter who the enemy is, it at least means that there must be something wrong with Yasin Base or Robert 4."

Miller seemed to have anticipated the president's questions and did not conceal or exaggerate in his answers.

Brandon thought for a moment and looked at the Secretary of Defense again.

"If the entire main fleet directly sails to the border for this reason, it will be a declaration of war on the Star Dragon Empire. According to the procedures, the declaration of war on the Star Dragon Empire must be approved by Congress."

"Procedure! Program! Others are attacking us, why do you still care about the program?!"

Marshal Trafalgar had a bad temper, and he 'fired' directly at Brandon before Minister Miller beside him had time to hold him back.

"The soldiers on the front line are still fighting bloody battles, waiting for the support of the main force, but you politicians who are greedy for life and fear of death are hiding in the safe rear talking about what procedures?"

The old marshal rushed directly in front of the president's desk, resting his hands on the desk like an old but still aggressive lion.

But Brandon was not frightened by Trafalgar's momentum. Instead, he stood up directly so that his eyes were parallel to the old marshal's. He looked directly at the other person and said word by word:

"Marshal Trafalgar, although you are my senior and I do admire you very much, but..."

Brandon's tone changed, and he seemed to be a different person.

"Do you know what it means to directly declare war on the Star Dragon Empire? The two largest forces in the human world are at war again after more than eighty years because of an urgent military intelligence that has not yet been verified?"

"And you mentioned procedures. I must emphasize that rules and laws are one of the foundations of our federation and are inviolable! Everything must be carried out within the framework of the law and in accordance with the rules and regulations!"

"Two gentlemen, we haven't really entered war yet! According to federal law, the mobilization of the main fleet requires an order from the president, so you guys came to me. This is the procedure. As for the declaration of war on the empire, I need to report it to Congress It can only be announced after approval, this is also the procedure!”

When President Brandon was 'talking' about federal laws and rules, Defense Secretary Miller held back his angry old classmate and waited until the president finished speaking before he spoke:

"Your Excellency, we have no objection to the fact that declaring war requires the approval of Congress, but I can propose another compromise solution."

 Happy New Year everyone~
