Chapter 10 Pumpkin Farm

Chapter 10 Pumpkin Farm
"Why go to the pumpkin farm at this time?" Herrag asked doubtfully.

Now that the autumn harvest is over, there is nothing on the pumpkin farm. No one will cause trouble at all, and there is no value in garrisoning it.

Seeing Emil's embarrassed expression, he suddenly understood: "Okay, I'll go with you, but have you really thought about it clearly?"

He had already seen that day that Emil and Melissa did like each other.

Emil went to the pumpkin farm this time, probably to hide away for a while until Melissa got married.

He patted Herage on the head: "Children, don't ask too much about adults' matters!"

Herage could see that Emil was in a hurry, so he just packed up and went out with him.

At the gate of the castle, two horses were ready. On the horses were large and small packages, which were filled with supplies for the winter.

Herage turned to look at Emil and found that he was a little depressed, probably because he had not slept all night.

"Emil!" Melissa's voice came from a distance, and Herage turned around and saw a beautiful figure running over.

"Let's go!" Emil said cruelly, immediately mounted his horse and ran away.

Herage ran away as soon as he saw him, and turned around to see Melissa running over. He didn't want to get involved in the nobles' affairs, so he got on his horse and rushed out.

When he rode across the river, he looked back and saw Melissa kneeling at the gate of the castle, as if she was crying.

The mountain forests in autumn have changed their appearance. The mountains are red, the forests are dyed, the mountain roads are covered with fallen leaves, and the horses' hooves make a rustling sound when they step on them.

Emil had something to worry about and was silent all the way. Herague ignored him and treated him as if he was just going out for an outing.

Although he is young, he has lived two lives and has far more experience in this area than Emir. Everything needs time to settle.

There is no mission for this trip, so there is no rush.

They also passed the cave on the way, and both Herage and Emil stayed here for a while.

Emil poured two glasses of wine on the ground, performed a knight's salute and left silently.

Seven days later, the two arrived at the pumpkin farm.

The pumpkin farm is located at the foot of the Emerald Mountains. The two of them walked down the mountain road. After passing through the forest, they suddenly saw a wide plain.

There are farmlands of various sizes on the plains, where wheat, pumpkins and other crops are usually grown.

Since the autumn harvest has passed, most of the farmland is bare.

There is a large yard in the middle of the pumpkin farm. The fence of the yard is made of heavy stones, just like a fortification.

"This is to protect against wild beasts, and also to protect against occasional enemy attacks." Emil explained.

The farm gate was also a heavy iron gate. Emil walked to the door and knocked lightly.

After a while, footsteps were faintly heard inside, and an old man with a hoarse voice asked: "Who is it?"

"Captain of the castle guard, Emil, come to garrison." Emil responded.

"Who?" The old man inside didn't seem to hear clearly.

Emil had no choice but to speak again with a louder voice.

This time the old man seemed to hear clearly, and there was the sound of a key entering the iron lock from behind the door.

squeak...

The door slowly opened, and there was a harsh friction sound. Behind the door is an old man wearing a bloated cotton coat. The skin on the old man's face is as dry as bark, and his eyes are cloudy and he doesn't know whether he can see clearly.

"Are you Massimo? I am Emil, and this is a token." Emil took out his knight captain badge and handed it over.

Massimo took the badge without even looking at it. Instead, he touched the badge with his hand. After touching it, he returned it to Emil and said, "Come in."

"He is the only resident of the farm and has been here for forty years." Emil introduced.

"Forty years..." Herage looked at the stumbling old man and felt a little surprised.

"You guys, remember, don't come out of your room at night, no matter what noise you hear, don't come out. There are evil spirits in the mountains. There were guards stationed here last winter, but people disappeared the next morning. You have to be careful." Marcy Mo walked ahead and said.

"Evil? Does such a thing really exist?" Herage asked.

Massimo made no response and ignored Herague.

Emil said: "In the past, there were indeed guards stationed here to garrison here in the winter, but without exception they all disappeared. Later, no guards were sent here to stay in the winter."

"Then we're still coming?" Herage looked like he was tricked by you.

Emil smiled and said: "Haha, talking about evil spirits is just a rumor. There are many wild beasts looking for food in the mountains in winter. It is indeed risky to go out at night, but are you and I still afraid of wild beasts?"

Herage thought about it. Generally speaking, wild beasts are just food to eat with wine. But what I'm afraid of is that there is something strange here, and we can't look at it with the concepts of past lives.

There are more than a dozen houses on the farm, some big and some small. Large houses are basically warehouses, used to store food or houses.

The smaller houses are usually housing. Massimo lives in the northernmost hut on the farm, and Emil and Herage live in a large three-story house in the middle of the farm.

The house was relatively messy, so the two of them simply tidied it up and managed to regain some sense of life.

The house also had a cellar. Emil opened the wooden planks covering the cellar, hung an oil lamp down, and walked down after finding that the lamp was not extinguished.

There were bags of flour and several large wooden barrels in the cellar.

Emil looked happy, picked up a barrel and smelled it: "These are all good wines!"

The two took out a bucket, found two glasses, and poured bright red wine from the barrel. The rich aroma of the wine suddenly filled the air.

"Cheers!" Emil smiled.

"cheers!"

Both of them were a little tired after traveling for a long time, so it was time to drink some wine.

It is difficult for a knight-level physique to be intoxicated by alcohol. There was no one else here, so Herage asked boldly: "You ran here to escape, will you really not regret it in the future?"

Emil smiled bitterly and said: "I regret it now, but there are things more important than my personal feelings."

"The purpose of this marriage, Lord Baron, is to preserve the entire territory. If I influence this marriage for my own sake, it will affect the territory and Lord Baron," he continued.

Herage was a little confused: "Safeguard the entire territory? The people of Beihard don't have this ability."

Behard himself is extremely poor, how can he pose a threat to the entire Duer Valley.

Emil looked at Herrag and said: "Do you know why the Baron has been able to control the Duer Valley for so long? Is it because there are many guards? No, because the Baron is a great knight, and there are not many great knights in the entire Norton Kingdom."

"The top combat power of the Great Knight is a deterrent, so no one dares to invade in a large scale, because the Great Knight can kill your whole family alone."

"Could it be that Sir Baron..." Herage suddenly had a guess in his mind. If Baron Buck is not going to die soon, then the Dole Valley will be a big piece of fat that everyone can take a look at.
