Rebirth of top photographers

Chapter 14 A Thoughtful Photo

Chapter 14 A Thoughtful Photo
In the family apartment on campus, Chen Pingsheng was standing downstairs holding a roll of things and calling Professor Li.

"Hey, teacher, I'm downstairs."

"Floor 3? Okay."

After hanging up the phone, Chen Pingsheng hurried to the access control area. After waiting for two seconds, the access control opened with a beep.

He quickly opened the door and walked into the family building.

This is a dormitory building built by the school for professors and their families. It is located in a corner of the school. It is relatively quiet on weekdays and not many people live there.Because the professors are obviously not short of money.

But Professor Li is different. Her children are abroad and her husband left early, so she is relatively lonely on weekdays.

So I live on campus and can chat with students and play table tennis with other professors from time to time.

It was also the first time for Chen Pingsheng to come to Professor Li's home. The elevator quickly reached the third floor and when he came to the corridor, the door on the left was already opened.

He slowly approached the door and heard footsteps. Professor Li, who was trimming flowers and plants in the living room, did not look back: "Is it Xiao Chen? Wait for me."

"Okay, teacher." Chen Pingsheng changed into a pair of slippers and walked into the living room.

The decoration style of the house is European style. The door is facing the floor-to-ceiling window, and on the right is a gray sofa with a white blanket on it.The TV is still an old model and not big in size, but it is polished very brightly. At this time, Professor Li was tidying up the flowers he had grown in the small garden outside the window. Some flowers were placed on the ground because they were larger, and some were hung on the iron railings of the balcony, looking lush and leafy.

The air was filled with the smell of incense. Chen Pingsheng was sitting on the sofa, with the sun shining warmly on his body, feeling that his sleepiness was amplified.

After waiting for a while, Professor Li finally finished her work. She put the watering bottle aside and poured Chen Pingsheng a glass of water.

"Dong" the water cup collided softly with the solid wood coffee table. Professor Li said with a smile: "Let's drink some water first."

"Thank you, teacher." Chen Pingsheng picked up the cup. The water was actually warm and fit his mouth perfectly.

"What's the matter? You're so anxious to come to me." Professor Li also poured himself a glass and asked curiously while drinking.

"Teacher, you will submit the photos to the city on Friday." Chen Pingsheng got straight to the point.

Professor Li was stunned and nodded: "Yes, you haven't given me the photos you took before. Are you here to give them to me today? Just send them to me via email directly from your computer."

"My photos may not be suitable if viewed on a computer."

"Oh?" Professor Li took off his glasses and felt that Chen Pingsheng was smiling and confident when he said this. This was somewhat different from the Chen Pingsheng she had known before.

"Teacher, do you have a clip at home?" Chen Pingsheng felt that it was useless to talk more, so he showed the photo, and Professor Li would naturally understand.

"Yes, you want to put the photo, right? I'll look for it for you." Professor Li didn't ask too many questions. She got up and went to the utility room.

"Shengsheng, there is an easel inside, please come and move it." Suddenly, Professor Li's voice came from the utility room.

"Okay." Chen Pingsheng helped Professor Li move the easel out without saying a word, and then unpacked the roll he was carrying.

That's a 48-inch photo.

Seeing this size, Professor Li was obviously stunned.

"Professor, this is the portrait I took of Yao Cun." Chen Pingsheng stood to one side, waiting for Professor Li's appreciation.

Professor Li did not go very close. Photos of different sizes have different viewing distances.
She stood three steps away, put on her glasses again, and stared at the photo of Li Aping carefully.

Chen Pingsheng said nothing or explained the photo, and the room suddenly fell into a quiet atmosphere.

He will not comment on his photos, because the subjective expression of the artist himself has no meaning after the photos are published.

As long as the viewer can feel the photographer's purpose from the photo, that's enough.

The same goes for many works of art, and even many movies. If the audience cannot understand the intentions and concepts of the main creators from the work, it means that there is something wrong with it, but many people often think that this is because the viewer is not good enough. If the industry is not good, it is entirely the audience's fault. This is an extremely arrogant approach.

Take the photo of Moriyama Avenue as an example. The viewer may not know the history of RB at all, nor the specific situation. When he sees this photo, he will only feel chaos, conflict, and contradiction. But isn’t this exactly the purpose of filming Moriyama Daido?

What he wants to express is conflict and contradiction, and the audience can also see this through the photos. As for whether they can fully understand it and whether they like it or not, it depends on the audience's own aesthetic level and preferences.

And if the audience can't even see the basic creative expression, does it mean that the audience is not good enough?

The level of the creator is really not good.

However, this situation is common nowadays. Some viewers have been succeeded by PUA and think that it is their own problem that they cannot see creative expression.

Professor Li is obviously not an ordinary viewer. Whether it is her decades of teaching experience or her sensitivity to photography, she is aware of the meaning behind this photo.

After watching it for a few minutes, Professor Li suddenly asked: "This should be a series."

"Yes, there are 5."

Professor Li nodded, but he was sighing in his heart. He didn't expect that this elm-headed person had an awakening, and it was not just an ordinary awakening.

Whether it was plagiarism or not, it was impossible to hide it from her. Even in foreign works, she had never seen such calm photography.

There is no rendering, no description, as if there is no existence of the photographer himself, it is completely a record of objective reality.

But such a simple technique, combined with the large size, creates a shocking artistic conception.

"What is this set of photos called?"

"It's called a portrait, a portrait of Yao Village." Chen Pingsheng replied.

"Not enough." Unexpectedly, Professor Li did not agree with this name.

"What do you think, teacher?" Chen Pingsheng also wanted to know Professor Li's understanding.

"I know what you want to express, but it's too obscure and reserved." Professor Li explained: "You can't expect people who see the exhibition to have aesthetics, nor can you expect them to stay in front of a photo for a long time. So I I felt that since the photo was very subtle, the title should be accurate and straightforward.”

"Indeed." Chen Pingsheng had never thought of this before. This exhibition is not for his peers, but for the general public, including some invited entrepreneurs.

As we all know, most entrepreneurs in China are as rich as anyone. On aesthetics, sorry, what is that.

Young models in the club, KTV, Haitian Shengyan bikini, this is their normal state.Their pursuit of art is just to subsidize themselves and earn some talk.

Therefore, if it is too obscure, it will indeed be detrimental to the dissemination of the work.

"Then, what is it called?" Chen Pingsheng fell into deep thought.

Professor Li also started thinking.

After a long while, Professor Li's expression showed and he said: "It's called equality in looking at each other."

Chen Pingsheng touched his chin and suddenly thought of something.

We cannot look at each other equally, but we have the equality to look at each other.

"Okay, let's call it this." He laughed, happy that the work had a better name.

The reference photos taken by Chen Pingsheng were posted in the comment area. Photographers from all over the world can take a look if they are interested.
