Chapter 181 Performance Squeezing

Regarding the price increase of key semiconductor components, all major domestic assembly plants have chosen to remain silent.

Not only are they silent, but they also try to block and downplay the news, intentionally or unintentionally, so that it does not reach consumers directly. Otherwise, when they hear it, they will definitely become excited and may directly boycott their products.

Anyway, the price increase is not once or twice, but this time the magnitude is more severe.

Their approach is to first guide public opinion and use artificial intelligence and other excuses to create the illusion of a serious global shortage of cores, to give the public a shot of vaccination in advance, and then slowly increase the price of the product to reduce consumer confidence. Resistance.

Isn’t that what graphics cards do?

But before the price goes up, they can really only buy one and lose one...

However, such breaking news cannot be hidden from the public, nor from industry companies such as Warwick.

Every crisis is always accompanied by opportunities.

When Mr. Yu from Huawei heard the news, he immediately realized that this chip crisis might be a serious crisis for the entire country of China.

But for Warwick, it is an unprecedented opportunity!

As the saying goes, you can raise an army for a thousand days and use it for a while.

Their tens of billions of R&D investments over the years will finally show their value at this moment, and will shine with the most dazzling light!

He immediately called Kang Chi, first explained the news to him, and then made his request:

"Mr. Kang, we want to advance the release date of new products, so the debugging and optimization progress of the camera must be further accelerated..."

"Can you please spare your precious time to come to Pengcheng to personally supervise the operation and help our imaging department complete the debugging and optimization of the camera as soon as possible?"

"In return, we can place another order for one million cameras. And if we can seize this opportunity together and become an instant hit, the next order volume will probably be in the tens of millions!"

Kang Chi couldn't help but frown when he heard the tens of millions of orders.

Because he knows that what Mr. Yu said is completely possible, and even judging from the size of China's mobile phone market, tens of millions may be just a conservative figure.

Once they really seize this wave of opportunities, 10 million flagship phones may be sold in two to three months.

As Warwick's camera supplier, he can naturally get a piece of the action.

It is not impossible to invest one or two billion in R&D at the beginning and eventually earn tens of billions directly.

Kang Chi immediately agreed to this matter.

Although Chen Hai repeatedly emphasized that his safety was absolutely fine, Kang Chi insisted on wearing a helmet when going out.

"It's okay. Nowadays, you are required to wear a helmet even when riding an electric bicycle on the road. To improve safety awareness, we have to start with me."

So in Chen Hai's speechless eyes, Kang Chi headed to Pengcheng fully armed. Even when going through the security check, Kang Chi refused to take it off. In the end, Chen Hai and the others showed their IDs before boarding the plane smoothly...

In fact, there is a big advantage of wearing a helmet when going out, that is, no one can recognize him. At most, everyone wonders whether he is a celebrity who sneaks out secretly, or a sociopath freak.

After arriving in Warwick, Kang Chi first attended a technical meeting, and only after entering the conference room did Kang Chi finally take off his helmet in front of everyone's curious eyes.

"Mr. Kang?" He Yongbin suddenly shouted in surprise, "Why are you here?"

As the R&D director of Daqin Optical Camera Department, he has been staying in Pengcheng with dozens of Daqin Optics’ R&D teams during this period, cooperating with engineers from Warwick to complete the debugging of the lens.

Kang Chi smiled at the surprised He Yongbin: "Of course I'm here to help you." Faced with Kang Chi's joining, Warwick's engineers also expressed strong curiosity and expectations. They didn't know what this legendary boss would do. What kind of surprise will it bring them.

For mobile phone hardware, in fact, many times it cannot be used directly by simple assembly. The same hardware, under the training of different engineers, will actually produce completely different effects.

The same is true for cars. Some manufacturers of the same engine can squeeze out more horsepower, while others can make more oil. The same applies to parts such as gearboxes.

In fact, the prototype that Fang Qiming used to promote has not yet had time to undergo detailed debugging. No matter how well the debugging is done, it may not be the prototype that is finally installed.

Moreover, what Daqin Optics sells is just a camera. The specific debugging is usually the mobile phone company's own business. After all, each company's systems and components are different. Only they know best. The camera supplier can send technicians to help with debugging. It’s already pretty good, not to mention a big boss is here.

After the meeting started, Kang Chi did not interfere with their work agenda. He simply looked at their progress list and listened to the whole process.

After the meeting, Mr. Yu said goodbye to Kang Chi and said that he would go to Shanghai in person with He Baiting, president of Haisi, to discuss processor and other chip foundry issues with Shanghai Silicon Industry and Leon Micro.

So the entire camera debugging team was handed over to Kang Chi, and nearly a hundred people started working in full swing. People from Warwick were still responsible for the main work. If they encountered problems, they would ask He Yongbin for advice.

If even He Yongbin can't solve it, then it will be Kang Chi's turn to take action.

"Mr. Kang, this is the video bit rate and frame rate table given by Warwick." As a result, before Kang Chi could sit on the hot stool, He Yongbin immediately asked Kang Chi about the most controversial issue between the two parties during this period.

"I think their data indicators are a bit too conservative and cannot bring out the performance of our cmos at all, but they said that their processor performance is limited and the heat dissipation problem has not been solved..."

Kang Chi nodded, took the information and looked at it carefully.

This question is actually quite embarrassing.

To put it simply, Daqin's camera sensor has a very high tolerance, coupled with the powerful data processing and output capabilities of the digital circuit, resulting in a very large amount of data. Especially when shooting 4K60P and 2K240P videos, Warwick's processor simply cannot handle it. Accommodating such a large amount of data will ultimately only reduce the performance of the camera.

There are usually only two solutions to this problem. One is to improve the performance of the processor, and this solution is obviously unrealistic at present.

The rest is to optimize the image compression algorithm, reduce the amount of data processing, and reduce the size of photos and videos. For example, the algorithm of H.265 is more advanced than H.264, and the video size can be reduced by about 39-44%.

But the problem is, they are already using H.265.

H.266 encoding is still very immature at present, and it will not be compatible if the system or device is changed. If the video taken by the user needs to be edited later, or shared with other devices, it will be a bit impractical.

In fact, the optimization of video encoders is also one of the core technologies of Kangchi's future national supercomputing plan. He even plans to develop an encoder that is better than H.266.

But this encoder didn’t have the time to be used by Warwick.

Kangchi thought about it for a long time and finally decided to use a compromise transition plan.

Since the performance of the camera is excessive and the performance of the processor is not enough, it is better to use the excess performance of the camera to help them preprocess the data first.

Of course, if you do this, the camera's ultimate performance will definitely not be unleashed.

At most, it can only improve the original 60% performance to 80%.

Kangchi quickly wrote down this temporary transition plan and split it among the technical teams of both parties.

Because CMOS was developed by Daqin Optics and is most familiar with its performance and design, this optimization work was also led by He Yongbin.
