Chapter 44 Persuasion (book club group 678111047)

Lunch is very rich.

Roast duck, chicken, steak, various fruits, red wine and pies are all available.

Obviously, the Herschel family attached great importance to Leon's arrival, and Leon also adhered to his duty as a guest and was very polite, occasionally making a few just-right jokes.

In the afternoon, Leon and Amy wanted to experience the feeling of riding a horse, so Hershel asked his eldest daughter Maggie to teach them how to ride a horse.

From how to sit, how to exert force, and how to maintain body balance during exercise, Maggie taught her very carefully. She is a relatively outgoing girl and occasionally talks about her story about the farm.

The ride lasted about two hours, and it was quite enjoyable. Leon had basically mastered the key to riding a horse, while Amy was just getting started.

He made an excuse and left the two girls to continue practicing riding horses while he found Hershel in the house.

The old man was a little surprised why Leon was looking for him, but Leon said straight to the point:
"Mr. Hershel, I know you have a lot of zombies in your warehouse and you believe they are just a patient, not a monster."

"Because it's full of your neighbors, relatives and friends."

"As for Ni's thoughts, I will not comment for the time being, but I invite you to leave this farm with me and take a look in the outside world."

"Look at the world as it really is now."

"It doesn't take long, just an hour or two, and there won't be any danger if you stay with me."

Hershel frowned and looked at Leon angrily. Thinking of the identity of the man in front of him and the power he had, the old man sighed softly and said:

"Okay, Mr. Custer, I will accompany you to go out and have a look, but I hope you will not interfere with me and my family's behavior in the future."

Ten minutes later, without alerting anyone else, Leon drove his modified jeep with Hershel to a nearby town.

Halfway through, Leon saw a good target and stopped the car.

It was a zombie with only half of it left. It might have been run over by a car. The whereabouts below the abdomen were unknown. The rotten skin and black internal organs were visible to the naked eye. When it saw the stopped car, it suddenly gained momentum and used both hands. Desperately crawling towards the car.

Leon got out of the car, stepped on the zombie's head, and pressed him to the ground. He turned to Hershel, whose face was ashen, and asked:

"These things will start to decay after the first day of transformation. Although I don't know why they don't produce maggots, they can still move around in such a body."

"Mr. Hershel, you may not know that I have searched the entire Atlanta area for several months and have only found a few hundred survivors. Only one in a few thousand of us humans have survived."

"If, in the future, we research the virus serum, can these decayed and broken corpses turn back into humans?"

Hershel looked at the half of the zombies that were still crawling. He had always seen almost complete zombies, which gave him a feeling of possible cure. Coupled with the fantasy of the reunion of his relatives, he kept Stubbornly stick to your own opinions.

His daughter and friends have also been living in the illusion he spun, and no one wants to expose it.

But the half of the zombie that could still move gave him a huge impact and made him feel like he wanted to escape.

Leon waited for dozens of seconds, but when the old man still didn't answer, he shrugged and crushed the zombie's head under his feet.

The two were on the road again. Hershel suddenly said he wanted to drink, and Leon followed his guidance to a bar in the town.Along the way, the two of them saw more weird zombies. Some had their skin burned to charcoal, some had their arms and legs chewed up, some had several big holes in their chests, and some had only a layer of skin left. It was simply unscientific to have a skeleton that could still move, which made Leon very curious.

After entering the bar, Hershel seemed very depressed. He took a bottle of brandy from the counter and started to drink it on his own. Leon picked out a bottle of low-alcohol fruit wine, held a glass, and started Wander around here.

By the time he completed a circle and eliminated all dangers, the old man had already drank half the bottle.

Leon stepped forward and patted Hershel on the shoulder and said, "Drink less, Mr. Hershel. Your family will blame me when you go home."

The old man raised his somewhat cloudy eyes, looked at Leon, and said:

"I came out with you today and saw those mutilated monsters."

"I just realized that I am a fool. Mr. Custer, my wife, stepson, and friends are all dead long ago. What I have been raising are a bunch of monsters."

"What hope is there for this world? This small town used to have thousands of residents, but now there is not even a living person to be seen."

"Everything we knew was gone."

Leon didn't feel anything at all. He said to Hershel with a serious expression:
"Whether you think there is hope or not, Mr. Hershel, you are the backbone of the family, your two daughters rely on you, and your friends trust you. Even if there is no hope, you must pretend to be confident. Pass that confidence on to them.”

"This is the responsibility you must bear as a father and as a friend."

He patted the old man on the shoulder and continued:
"The world still has hope, and our Umbrella Company is the hope of the world. As long as we are given enough time, we will be able to defeat the virus and liberate all mankind."

"This is my belief and my ideal."

Hershel murmured a few words softly and said:
"You are such a noble man, Mr. Custer."

Before dusk, the two returned to the farm by car. Maggie and Amy were riding horses and admiring the surrounding scenery. They felt a little strange when they saw their father coming back drunk.

Leon didn't explain much, but extended an invitation to Maggie's family, inviting them to enjoy the delicious food he brought from the base together in the evening.

This time he came from the base and brought a lot of supplies to Glenn's team. He took this opportunity to hold a small outdoor barbecue party.

Before the sun went down, Glenn led his team back to the farm. It had only been a few days since they came here, and they didn't gain much. Most of them were some food and medicine. However, there were three survivors who passed by. Being able to join the Umbrella Company, he stayed on.

Leon took the time to meet the three of them, a couple and his neighbor, who looked like honest and responsible people. He promised to take the three of them to the Umbrella base when he left, and invited the three of them to participate. At the banquet, I got the gratitude of several people.

The dinner was held smoothly under Amy's arrangement. Good wine and meat were served, plus a variety of cooked food and snacks brought from the base. Everyone had a great time.

Leon didn't give a speech in a disappointed manner, but quietly watched everyone's reactions while Amy waited on him.

After the dinner, Glenn came over and told Leon a piece of news.

Outside a town not far away, he found a camp with about 30 people. Because he had insufficient information and could not judge the other party's character, he did not act rashly.
