37 Refuge
Georgia emergency shelter.

"I am Professor Amlin from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology, and I am here to rescue you."

"If anyone else, please answer me."

As the words of rescue came from the loudspeaker, the originally quiet shelter suddenly began to become restless.

The area of this shelter is not large, almost 1000 square meters. The front hall is about 700 square meters. When the sofa and bed are placed, a separate toilet and bathroom are used for resting. The back hall is about 300 square meters. This is a combination dining room and kitchen, with only some tables, chairs and kitchen utensils, and the two halls are separated by a solid bulletproof glass door.

In the front hall, more than 100 rotting zombies heard the voice coming from the door. They all turned their heads and stared at a huge display screen on the door, looking at the man in a suit and leather shoes on the screen. The figure began to roar and slowly move its body towards him.

In the back hall of the shelter, more than 70 humans with haggard faces and spirits also heard the sound from the display screen.

The twenty or so people near the glass door couldn't help but feel refreshed, and there was a glimmer of hope in their dim eyes.

Among these people, the leader was an elderly gentleman in his 50s. Enduring the throbbing in his heart, he took out a bottle of white asthma spray from his dirty suit pocket and sprayed it into his mouth a few times.

After taking a few deep breaths, the old gentleman turned to the young people around him and said:
"Students, there is not much food in the warehouse. This may be our only chance to escape. If we cannot escape, everyone will be trapped here to death."

"I have a plan."

The elderly gentleman pointed at the zombies in the front hall, paused slightly, and said:
"These monsters are very sensitive to sound, and their eyes seem to capture light."

"While they are currently attracted by the sound on the door screen, you turn off the power in the front hall. I will sneak out with a blanket, cover myself with it, and hide in the corner."

He stretched out his old arm, pointed at the bulletproof glass door that separated the front and rear halls, and continued:
"After I hide, you go and slap the bulletproof glass, shout loudly, make noise, and attract these monsters."

"I will take this opportunity to sneak over and press the red button next to the door. That is the button that opens the door to the shelter."

As he said this, he used his already cloudy eyes to look at the strong and brave students who were following him and unwilling to give up hope, with a hint of freedom in his voice.

"It would be best if the rescuers outside can deal with so many monsters."

"If they can't deal with these monsters, taking this opportunity to open the door of the refuge can be regarded as a chance for us."

"You can continue to wait until something happens outside, wait until something lures away all the zombies here, and then you can escape. As for life or death in the future, we can only pray for God's mercy."

As soon as he finished talking about his plan, his arms were hugged by graduate students on both sides. Siblings named Peggy and Hillman stopped him. His sister Peggy said:
"Professor Jacob, let me go."

"You are old and your health is failing. Have you forgotten? In the first half of the year, I was the runner-up in the school's 400-meter dash. If it were me, I would definitely be able to avoid the attacks of those monsters."

The girl's brother, Hillman, shook his head firmly and said, "Sister, let me go. This kind of thing should be done by men. I am the main force of the school football team, so there will be no problem."

Many other graduate students also argued, as if they should take risks on their own, but their statements were baseless, and their eyes were full of hesitation and fear.

Professor Jacob first smiled happily, then shook his head firmly and said:

"It is precisely because I am old that even if I go out, I may not be able to adapt to life outside."

"That's why I want to leave the opportunity to you. You are young and outstanding, and you all deserve a brighter future."

"My family has passed away and I have nothing to care about, so just let me go."

Seeing the old professor's determined look, Paige winked at her younger brother.Hillman understood, and quietly raised his right hand and hit the old professor hard on the neck. The old professor was hit hard and immediately rolled his eyes and fainted. As a top student in the Department of Medicine, he was not interested in knocking others out like this. The method has been studied for a long time.

Seeing her brother knocking out Professor Jacob, Peggy snorted and looked at another corner of the back hall with contemptuous eyes. She huddled up, as if she didn't care about anything, and turned into a clay sculpture. More than 50 people muttered the word "coward" in their mouths.

She sat back in her circle and said to the other students:

"Just follow Professor Jacob's plan, I will open the door of the shelter, and you will make noise here to attract the attention of the zombies."

"is that OK?"

Seeing a girl taking the initiative to take on the most dangerous task, many male students had expressions of shame on their faces, but they were hesitant to speak out and take the risk on her behalf, so they all promised to support her inside.

Peggy snorted again, stopped her brother Hillman from arguing with her with a stern look, took out a blanket from a corner of the back hall, walked to the bulletproof door, and pointed at the words on the wall. The electric switch winked at his brother.

Click!

All the light in the front hall dimmed instantly, leaving only the sound and images still playing on the display screen at the door. The zombies were attracted by the sound and light and had already huddled together at the door.

Peggy opened the bulletproof door silently, shrunk down and covered her body with a blanket, and walked out along the crack of the door half bowed and half prone.

As soon as she went out, the strong stench of death couldn't wait to get into the girl's nose. Paige's courage, which she had been holding on to, suddenly shrank. She desperately stopped herself from trying to escape back to the back hall. Impulsively, he forcibly controlled his hands and feet, and crawled to the corner farthest from the zombies little by little.

Hiding in the corner, Paige wrapped her body in a blanket, leaving only her eyes, and observed the movements of the zombies with the help of the light coming from the glass window.

boom! boom! boom!
boom! boom! boom!
Accompanied by human cursing and the sound of glass doors and windows being knocked, Hillman and his companions slammed on the bulletproof glass, making a lot of noise at the junction of the front and rear halls.

This "human" sound seems to attract the zombies' attention more than the unwavering radio sound.

Soon, more than 100 zombies surrounding the gate began to turn around and walk toward the glass doors and windows of the back hall.

Taking advantage of this opportunity, Peggy huddled in the corner without making any noise, and moved towards the door bit by bit.

Slowly, moving closer and closer, she crossed the group of corpses and came to the door.

Unfortunately, this girl didn't know that zombies don't just use sound to search for enemies, smell is also an important basis for them to search for enemies.

The few zombies at the end of the group of corpses suddenly seemed to have sensed something, turned around, and started moving towards the gate again.

Peggy also noticed this. Seeing several zombies walking towards its location, she no longer cared about hiding, stood up, and pressed the red button on the wall hard.

Tick tock!Tick tock!Tick tock!

Accompanied by the sharp siren, the steel door of the shelter began to move slowly.

But different from what Peggy imagined, the door opened very slowly, and it was impossible to open the position where humans could enter and exit before the zombies surrounded her.

Upon discovering this, the girl's heart began to beat violently. When she thought about what would happen after being surrounded by zombies, her legs began to feel weak unconsciously.

Could it be that I will die here?
