Chapter 35 Reserves

After coming out of the church, Chris felt that he was a little different from before, but he couldn't express this feeling in words.

Chris breathed a sigh of relief and walked towards Hoy University.

Hoy University Logistics Department

Seeing Chris walking in, Bob George did not stop playing with the "Russell Cube" in his hands. He propped up his hat with his hands and said with a smile: "The captain is waiting for you in the office. Come over."

It's really watching people order food...

Chris cursed and walked towards the corridor.

The office door was slightly opened, Chris knocked twice, and Albert Gore's voice came from inside: "Please come in."

Albert was sorting out documents. When he saw Chris coming in, he smiled and asked:

"Have you been to church?"

"I have been there," Chris nodded towards him, "I am now a believer in the God of Steam and Machinery."

"Okay, you sit down first," Albert handed him a document, "You can sign this document now."

Chris sat down and looked through the thick document, which was a signed contract in duplicate.

He originally thought that the contract signed by the Heart of Machinery was similar to that of the Nighthawks. He had already had a rough understanding of the terms of the latter's contract on Star Island, but this time he was wrong.

……

Privacy Policy:

Article 1: The signatory shall not disclose any information about "Machine Heart" (Note [-]) in any form or through any channel.

……

No. 17: The signatory shall not leave the specified area (Note 49) during the validity period of the contract (Note 50), except for those who apply to the relevant departments (Note 51) and obtain approval.

Attachment: The application procedures must comply with relevant regulations (Note 52), including but not limited to application time, application location, application person, etc.

Article 135: ...

Chris looked at the numerous confidentiality clauses and the dense notes at the bottom. Sweat broke out on his forehead. He felt like he was going to faint.

The level of confidentiality of the Heart of Machinery is too high. There are...more than 500 confidentiality clauses!
Seeing Chris's forehead clenched and his expression solemn, Albert laughed awkwardly and explained: "Chris, you don't have to look so carefully. These are just death rules...actually they are not that strict."

He continued: "The Extraordinary teams of the three major churches have almost the same content regarding the secrecy clause, except that the Nighthawks and Punishers are much simpler than the Mechanical Heart."

Seeing that Chris seemed to be still hesitating, Albert directly turned to the last few pages of the contract, pointed to the salary clause and said:

"The weekly salary is 2 pounds, and the confidentiality and risk allowance is 10 sulers... You see, there is also a field subsidy of 10 sulers. Nighthawks and punishment agents do not have this subsidy. The total weekly salary is 3 pounds."

"What is the field allowance?"

Albert obviously didn't expect Chris to ask this question. He put his hand into a fist and put it to his mouth, coughed, and smiled awkwardly: "Just moving tables and chairs for the students."

"Of course, it will be a little busier when school starts, but this subsidy is given every week, isn't it considered a benefit?"

He patted Chris on the shoulder and handed him a pen: "Sign it if there's no problem."

Why does it feel like a fraud gang deceived me into a trap...

Chris scratched his chin, took the pen, and signed his name after "Signed By": Chris Doty. Then he pressed his fingerprint on the name.

"Ok."

Seeing Chris finishing his fingerprints, Albert took the seal from the cabinet and put it in the prescribed place.

Then, he put back the seal and stretched out his hand towards Chris: "Welcome, Chris Doty, a member of the Mechanical Heart Team in Tingen City, Avajo County, Loen Kingdom."

"Of course, you now have an official establishment at the police station. You can have one day off a week. The specific time depends on the shift schedule."

Albert pointed to the content of the seal: Team [-] of the Special Operations Department of the Ahowa County Police Department of the Kingdom of Loen
He put away one of the contracts and handed the other to Chris: "Of course, remember to keep it confidential, including this contract."

"Okay, Captain." Chris saluted him.

"Usually it doesn't have to be so formal," Albert pointed to the door, "We're going to have a meeting, and the team members are already waiting in the conference room."

The conference room is next to Albert's office, but twice the size.

In front of the conference room is a blackboard with many portraits, maps and other information pinned on it.

There are four people sitting in the conference room now. In addition to the two ladies Chris met yesterday, there is also a gray-haired old man, and... Horik David?

Chris was slightly shocked when he saw Horik, who crossed his arms and looked at him warily.

Albert Gore motioned for Chris to find a seat, and then said slowly: "Now please let our new member Chris introduce himself to everyone."

Except for Horik, who didn't move, everyone else clapped. The two ladies tilted their heads and looked at Chris aside curiously.

Chris stood up and said: "My name is Chris Doty, from now on..."

His words were abruptly interrupted by Horik: "Chris Doty, an immigrant from Lemberg, a graduate of the grammar department of Hoy University, no one has seen him since he left school three weeks ago, and was later arrested outside the Misty Village. He was discovered and then apprenticed in a tequila bar.”

Horik looked at Chris and continued expressionlessly: "A week later, a robbery occurred at the Tequila Bar. The fire killed one policeman and injured three others, but not a single criminal was caught."

He glanced at everyone and shrugged: "These are all files that can be found. I just introduced myself to our new members."

One dead and three injured...

Why didn't Albert tell me?
Chris felt a little heavy.

Albert Gore pressed his hand on Horik and said: "Based on the situation at the scene, the Tequila Salon theft involved extraordinary elements. It is initially estimated that there is at least one extraordinary person in the criminal gang, which is related to the secret organization. ."

Horik pointed at Chris and raised his voice: "So, we let a wild Beyonder join the official team of Beyonders?"

Everyone was silent, and the atmosphere in the conference room was very solemn.

After a long time, Albert slowly said: "Dunn Smith judged that he is fine."

"Dunn Smith? That Nighthawks captain? He said it's okay when he says it's okay?"

Seeing Horik's angry face, Albert turned and left the conference room. After a few seconds, he came back with a document: "Chris Doty has signed the contract, and he is now one of us." .”

Horik flipped through the contract and threw it on the table casually: "He should be a reserve."

"Reserves" is an unwritten term within the Heart of Machinery. The team members who serve as reinforcements during operations are jokingly called reserves. They are mostly responsible for rearguard work and cleaning the scene.
