Mystery: I can change things in books

Chapter 25 May Chapter (6)

Chapter 25 Juneteenth ([-])

It was approaching noon, and a few customers had just arrived in the tavern.

The small restaurant opposite the tavern is doing so well that there are not enough seats during peak meal times. At this time, some diners waiting in line will come to the tavern to order a glass of light beer and drink while waiting.

Some diners who have no seats will choose to come to the tavern with their plates to eat, and then return the plates after eating, and Jason will not chase them away. These small details make the reputation of Tequila Tavern much better than other pubs.

Chris took his portion of lunch, sat across from Jason and started eating. He wanted to use food to calm his inner panic.

It was a piece of white bread and vegetable broth, with a few pieces of bacon floating on the surface of the soup, and a few slices of vegetables on the side. It looked very delicious, but the bread in his hand made Chris feel a little nauseous.

The staple food is always bread, not even rice...

Chris broke off a piece of bread, dipped it in the soup and stuffed it into his mouth. Otherwise, he really couldn't eat it.

After lunch, he wiped his mouth in a very gentlemanly manner, Chris looked up and found Jason looking at him with a weird look.

"Huh?" Chris touched his mouth to make sure he didn't eat food on his face: "Jason, why are you looking at me like that?"

"Chris, can you tell me who you really are? You can heal Samantha instantly. You must not be a low-sequence extraordinary person."

He thought he had a pretty good relationship with Chris, so he had the courage to ask the question he wanted to ask the most.

Chris wanted to tell the truth, but then he thought that if he really told the truth, Jason might not believe it, and it would make him more suspicious.

The logic is very simple. Since you only have Sequence 9, where do these abilities come from?

Thinking of this level, Chris felt that he should follow Jason's train of thought.

He paused, pretending to be mysterious and whispered: "I am a Sequence 7 Beyonder."

Sure enough, Chris is indeed Sequence 7. My guess is indeed correct. He is definitely not just Sequence 9...

Seeing Jason's expression of realization, Chris smiled and said no more.

A master should be mysterious.

About half an hour after lunch, the tavern owner Baggio finally came back. He carried a lamb with four hooves on his shoulders and walked into the tavern with a smile on his face.

He put the bleating lamb on the ground, looked at Chris and Jason, and smiled: "Improve your life tonight!"

Seeing Chris's confused look, Jason explained, "Tomorrow is Juneteenth, and the tavern will be closed this afternoon."

"Yes," Baggio patted Chris heavily on the shoulder, "This is a traditional festival of the Earth Church."

Having said this, he closed his eyes, touched his fingers, put his thumb and index finger on his chin and the tip of his nose respectively, and confessed: "Circle of life, mother of all things, please forgive me."

Recently, Baggio has been busy with work and tight on time. He has not had time to go to the Church of the Earth to pray. He can only confess to the Mother Goddess to ask for forgiveness.

After his confession, he asked, "Chris, do you know what Juneteenth is?"

Seeing Chris shake his head, he grunted and sat down, almost crushing the chair.

"June Festival is a grand annual festival of the Mother Earth Church. June is at the turn of spring and summer, and it is a time when all things grow strong."

Baggio paused and then said:

"Unlike Feneport, Loen has the Mother Earth as its state religion. There are very few earth churches here, so for us earth believers living in Loen, this is the most important time of the year."

"Tomorrow is Juneteenth. In Feneport, the festival lasts for a week, but in Loen, it is only one day."

Baggio put the lamb on his shoulders again and walked out of the tavern humming a tune, leaving the two of them with a generous and majestic back. "I'll take it to the other side and let them help deal with it."

In the afternoon, the tavern closed its doors and stopped entertaining guests. The three tenants living on the second floor also checked out on time - tomorrow is the three-day Juneteenth Festival, and the tavern stipulates that tenants can stay until noon on Monday at most.

This phenomenon is very common in pubs, restaurants and other service establishments opened by believers of the Church of the Mother Goddess of the Earth. Of course, there are not many in Loen.Jason also told Baggio about Chris's treatment of Samantha. After hearing this, the latter looked at Chris like he was looking at a monster. After a long time, he said slowly: "As long as it's okay, it's okay."

He completely changed his view of Chris, and at the same time, he was a little thankful that he had found a powerful Extraordinary bodyguard with a low price.

The sheep was kept until evening, and when the restaurant delivered it, it had turned into skewers.

Baggio brought out a barbecue grill from nowhere and placed it in the middle of the tavern. He sprinkled seasonings on the skewers and said, "Chris, go see if Samantha is awake."

Chris came to the door of the guest room and knocked on the door.

There was a noise in the room, and after a while, sleepy Samantha rubbed her eyes and opened the door.

She slept for several hours, recovered a bit, and no longer felt so tired.

"Going to eat?" Chris asked.

"Yeah." Samantha seemed to be in better spirits.

At this moment, Baggio had already grilled the meat skewers on the fire until they were sizzling with oil. He used anthracite coal, a new invention of Backlund Institute of Technology. The smell of meat floated in the air, without any smoke.

"It smells so good..." Samantha sniffed. Besides getting enough sleep, what she needed most now was a big meal.

"Baqiao, did you get this mutton?" she asked.

Baggio turned the mutton skewers over and said, "Well, the little sheep from Baiya Town has been roasted. Come and eat."

The mutton skewers had been grilled until they were tender and delicious. This was the first time Chris had eaten such good food since he came to this world.

……

After dinner, it was completely dark.

The first floor of the tavern was empty. Baggio lit two kerosene lamps for them and returned to his room on the third floor. He was going to pray to the Mother Earth.

Before Chris traveled through time, such a scene would only appear during a power outage. Unfortunately, this world has not yet developed into the electrical age.

"I'm going for a walk," Samantha said.

As a bounty hunter, she is always restless, and going outside can also help her recover.

"Are you going with me?" She suddenly turned to ask Chris.

"Okay, I just want to go for a walk." Chris said.

Maybe she has something to tell me...

Chris thought to himself.

"Then I'm going to rest." Jason handed the key to Chris.

Chris took the key and walked out of the pub with Samantha. It was now nine o'clock in the evening and there were not many people on the street.

The two walked quietly on the stone road. Every ten meters or so there was a gas street lamp, illuminating a small section of their way.

Chris had never held a girl's hand before, so he couldn't help but feel a little embarrassed at this moment.

Samantha stopped, raised her head, and said to him sincerely: "Chris, thank you."

Seeing Samantha looking at him with those pure watery eyes, Chris touched his neck and said with some embarrassment: "It's not a big deal, that's what I should do."

Samantha looked down at her toes, and the words reminded her of the past.
