Master of Spells from Faerun

Chapter 45: Dragon Gold Tribulation (5)

Chapter 45 The Dragon and Gold Tribulation ([-])

"Go and see where that ladder leads," Imrik said to Apollo.

The black-armored warrior climbed up the ladder, and the dilapidated ladder made creaking noises, making one worry that it might break at any time.

Apollo opened the shaft cover, and a loud sound came instantly. He stretched his head to look a few times, then closed it again and climbed down.

"It's a tavern, and all the guests are drinking. When we come back, we can go up directly from here, and we don't have to go so far to go out." Apollo said happily. He didn't want to walk in this stinky ditch for more than an hour when he came back.

The two continued to walk along the marked fork road, and the tunnel led to a circular space. Two shooting holes were dug on the outer wall of the space, facing each other on the northwest and southeast sides of the space.

There is a tunnel entrance on the south and north sides, and a stone platform on the west side, above which stands a stone door.

As Apollo was about to move forward, Imrik gestured and whispered, "Wait."

After chanting in a low voice, the mage cast an invisibility spell on himself, and walked towards the stone door secretly. Sure enough, there were two sleeping goblins guarding the door. If they were woken up just now, they might attract more enemies.

"Scorching rays." Three rays shot from the center of the mage's outstretched palm, piercing the hearts of the two goblins, who died in their sleep.

Imrik gestured for Apollo to follow, and blessed him with invisibility, and the two of them opened the stone door and walked in.

Behind the stone gate are empty rooms with some beds and clothes in them, probably the dormitory of the Shannasa Guild. The two of them passed through these rooms continuously, and encountered a few sleeping gray dwarves in the middle, and Apollo silently wiped their necks off with his sword.

Passing through one dormitory, the two came to a corridor, and in front of the corridor was a room with an open door.

A long, unthreaded curtain covered the east wall of this gallery. In the middle of the room, a strong half-orc in a gray robe stood in the middle of the room, with one foot on the chest of a man with golden-red curly hair.Flames wrapped around the orc's clenched fist, and the man beneath him cried and groaned helplessly.

Imrik recognized the figure at the orc's feet, it was Fren, and just as he was about to continue walking, he noticed that there was a monster beside him!
On a pedestal to the south sits a nightmarish figure. The black robe reveals huge white eyes and rubbery purple skin, with four tentacles protruding around its inhuman mouthparts.Like a mother tending a newborn, it tenderly embraces an indescribable thing in its tentacles protruding from under its robes—a creature that looks like a brain with legs.

"Mind flayer!" Imrik's heart trembled. He never expected to encounter such a frightening monster in the sewers of Waterdeep City.

It is said that mind flayers are creatures from outside the sky. They are born as tadpole-shaped creatures. They live and grow by parasitizing the bodies of other intelligent creatures and absorbing the nutrients of their brains.

Every mind flayer is a born psion, possessing powerful psychic powers.

This powerful power is similar to spells in many ways, but its essence is the spiritual power that the caster digs into the heart. Through this power, psions can simulate the effects that many spells can cause, and they can also do many things that spells cannot do.

Of course, the power of psions is not without flaws. To use psychic powers, psions need to consume power similar to spell slots, called power points. Compared with mages, psions of the same level can use relatively much less power and can use much less spells.

After all, no matter how powerful a person's mind is, it cannot be compared with the magic net covering the world.

As for the other half-orc, it is not difficult to see from Imrik's current vision that he is only a first-level or second-level man at most, so there is nothing to be afraid of.

But this mind flayer.
He couldn't determine how many levels the mind flayer had reached. The mind flayer had an innate ability, mind blast, which was the spell used by the goblin spider mother back then.

But the power of the mind flayer is that once he reaches a certain level, he can use this terrifying psionic power unlimited times a day, and the range is greatly increased.

Imrik was thinking about how to defeat the mind flayer. First of all, the monster summoning series of spells could not be used. The mind flayer was born with the spell-like ability to charm monsters that could be used unlimited times a day. Using this spell would only disgust him.

While thinking in his heart, the mind flayer sitting on the pedestal suddenly spoke: "Two little bugs, why don't you come in?"

It sees through invisibility! The two looked at each other, and Apollo picked up the long sword and rushed over.

Seeing the intruder, the half-orc roared and began to release spells. Imrik recognized that he was using a ring of spell magic missiles, and recited the same spell.

"Spell counter." The half-orc's spellcasting was interrupted by the black-robed mage, and the magic backlash made him bend over and vomit in disgust, but the half-orc's strong physical fitness made him slow down after a while, trying to stand up again.

"Mayouf's Acid Arrow." A green sphere condensed from Imrik's hand, and a green liquid with a strong sulfuric acid smell shot out from the sphere, hitting the half-orc who hadn't had time to stand up.

"Ah!!!" The half-orc wailed and fell to the ground, unable to move due to the severe pain corroded by sulfuric acid, he could only watch his body turn into a carbonized black object.

After finishing the half-orc, Apollo also fought with the mind flayer. As a spellcaster, the mind flayer doesn't like melee combat, but it's still not something that Apollo, a level [-] fighter, can contend with. It stretched out its hand, and a burst of mental fluctuations radiated from his body.

"Mind Blast!" Apollo was hit by this powerful psychic power, and stood there in a daze for an instant. The mind flayer continued to reach out and pointed to the wine barrel next to him, and used telekinesis to grab the barrel and hit Apollo.

"Peng!" Apollo was hit by the heavy wine barrel against the wall. Thanks to his well-made armor, he didn't suffer too much damage, but the attack of Mind Blast made him unable to participate in the battle for the time being.

Imrik carefully watched the mind flayer in the distance, and did not approach easily. He had to stand as far away as possible to prevent the mind flayer from blasting his mind.

"Now, it's your turn, little bug, grab it without a fight, and I promise that I will enjoy your delicious brain with a grateful heart." The mind flayer said indifferently.
