Chapter 24 Rendezvous
When Geralt awoke from Misha's living room, the sun had just crossed the Blue Mountains and cast its rays on the ground.

Last night, after solving Misha's commission, he taught a few tricksters who wanted to provoke him, and got the reward he deserved from the bearded village chief who wanted to delay the payment.

But the high-intensity exercise all day made his body exhausted, and he was really not allowed to enter the forest overnight to meet Wayne.

However, out of responsibility for the only demon hunter apprentice in decades, the white wolf took advantage of the early spring cold wind to sneak into the forest just before dawn.

But when he led the mount radish and drove the mountain road for two hours in the forest, his clothes and hair were covered with the cold morning dew, his body was shivering slightly from the cold, and when he finally arrived near the cave he found yesterday, he was stunned by the scene he saw.

He saw that boy Wayne, who worried him so much last night, was taking a leisurely walk in the forest with the beautiful female elf he saw yesterday, sitting on a black steed with an intimate attitude.

The most irritating thing was that that nasty boy had one arm around the elf's slender waist, and the other hand was holding the rein of the steed. After seeing him, he didn't feel any guilt at all. Instead, he showed a grinning smile and rode directly to his side.

"Geralt, it's really early for you to come."

"This horse is a gift from Toruwell, and she is teaching me how to ride a horse."

"After completing her commission, we will all be able to travel together on horseback."

Hearing Wayne's words, Geralt was even more surprised. In this era, a good horse is a valuable asset. Except for nobles, it is almost impossible for anyone to give a good horse to others.

But looking at the kid's smiling face, Geralt couldn't help feeling angry, and said in a slightly mocking tone:

"It seems that you had a good time last night. Compared with the fragrant elf, it must be much better than me at the farmer's house, smelling cow dung and eating bread."

In just one night, his junior established a good relationship with the female elf leader in front of him and received such a gift. There must be some unknown story in it.

Thinking of this, even the cold on his body was temporarily forgotten by him.

Toruwell frowned when she heard the words, and did not expose Wayne's lie. This was something they had agreed on before. Although it was not clear why Wayne would conceal the money from Geralt, she would not rashly intervene and affect the relationship between the two.

Wayne wanted to say something more, but when he saw Geralt's hair, the residual dew on his body, and his slightly trembling body from the cold, he immediately understood why the white wolf had come so early and why he was in such a panic, and he couldn't help feeling warm in his heart.

He got off his horse, landed beside Geralt, patted him on the shoulder, and said:

"Toruwell is a sensible leader, much better than those rude and cunning troublemakers."

"Come on, let's go to the cave first, there is a bonfire in the camp, and they have a good breakfast."

"Let's just discuss the entrusted matter."

After half an hour.

After breakfast, the three gathered around a bonfire, enjoying the warmth brought by the flames, while discussing softly the issue of the elf ruins.

Geralt leaned forward, propped his chin on one hand, and held a bonfire stirred by a firewood in the other. He said in a hoarse voice:

"Wayne, Toruwell, cleaning up an underground ruin is not an easy task."

"I once did a similar commission. That time, it took me half a month to kill hundreds of monsters before I cleaned up a small underground temple."

"Ghouls, water ghosts, evil ghosts, little mist demons, swamp witches, and Andregg swarms."

"There are countless monsters living in the underground environment. We are not sure what monsters we will encounter during the cleaning process."

Wayne nodded upon hearing this, reached out to take the cider jug handed to him by Toruwell, and poured a glass for Geralt beside him, before saying:

"That's not a problem, Geralt."

"We are demon hunters, and we have enough time to clean up the ruins. Toruville is willing to provide all assistance, and does not force us to complete the task in a short period of time. They can even send their fighters to help us."

He turned his head and exchanged glances with the female elf leader, and told Geralt the terms they had negotiated before.

"After the entrustment is completed, Toruville is willing to pay us [-] ducats, or a quarter of the spoils in the ruins."

"It's a huge sum of money, enough to last us a long time."

After hearing such a generous reward, Geralt pursed his lips and looked up at Wayne. Seeing that his junior seemed to have made up his mind, he didn't say anything against it.

This job was originally within the acceptable range of a demon hunter, and the remuneration was so generous, but because it was a bit dangerous and out of concern for Wayne's safety, he had so many scruples.

If it was just him, he might have agreed to it long ago.

Geralt sighed insignificantly, and said to Wayne:
"Okay then, Wayne, I'll go to the forest to collect herbs later, kill some monsters by the way, and replenish the potion reserves."

"Don't be idle, prepare the tools needed for refining medicine, and then go to the camp to ask if they have silver there, and find a way to coat your steel sword with a layer of silver plating."

"There are so many monsters in the ruins, only by using the silver sword can we inflict maximum damage on them."

After Geralt finished speaking, Toruville spoke:
"Don't worry, White Wolf, Wayne has already discussed this matter with me before."

"I have asked the blacksmith Vixon in the camp to prepare iron felts and stoves. Everyone should have some silver ornaments in their hands. Although the conditions are poor, his skills are very good and he should be able to help a little."

Hearing this, Geralt couldn't help but nodded slightly. To be honest, in his career as a witcher, he had rarely encountered an employer who was so willing to support their work and cooperate with them in preparing for the war.

On weekdays, what I meet is not arrogant and ignorant idiot nobles and rich businessmen, self-righteous decent people, or those cunning and shameless people who want to repay their debts.

If every employer is willing to cooperate with them in this way, then presumably, the job of a demon hunter will be infinitely easier.

Geralt pursed his lips, tasted the delicious and sweet cider in his hand, and closed his eyes enjoying it.

After ten seconds, he said:
"Let's be like this for now, Wayne, Toruwell, let's take a break today and make all the pre-war preparations."

"When tomorrow dawns, we will start cleaning up the ruins."
