Wizard: This witcher is not doing his job

Chapter 17 Kaedwin's Troubles

Chapter 17 Kaedwin's Troubles
Leaving Kaer Morhen Castle, Wayne followed Geralt, and it took three full days to cross the cold and rugged Blue Mountains and enter the territory of the Kaedwen Kingdom.

This was Wayne's first time camping in the wild like ordinary demon hunters. The cold weather and the terrible and dirty environment made him, a young master who had always lived in a civilized society, suffer a lot.

Thanks to the hidden haven that Geralt and the others had established in the mountains over the years, and the fact that the number of monsters in the virgin forest in winter had decreased a lot, they were able to safely walk to the Blue Mountains along the well-explored route.

But when he and Geralt were planning to search for demon hunting missions in the villages of the Kaedwen Kingdom along the way, they were hit head-on by the cruel reality.

"Get out of our village, you disgusting mutants."

"A bunch of sorceress whores and bastards born of monsters dare to come and defile our land, get out."

"Hide the children quickly, the witcher bastards are coming, these monsters will come and steal our children."

After trekking in the wilderness for a whole day, he found a dilapidated village. Wayne was about to find a villager to find out about the situation.

Immediately, he was insulted and driven away by many villagers in the village.

The words were vicious, as if the two had killed their entire family.

Moreover, not only cursing, but only a few minutes after the two entered the village, a middle-aged bearded man wearing a leather jacket and holding an iron sword surrounded him with five young men holding pitchforks and hoes.

Seeing them holding the murder weapon and their ferocious expressions, Wayne unconsciously grasped the steel sword on his back and drew half of it.

Geralt on the side was very calm. He patted Wayne on the shoulder to signal him not to be nervous. He walked up to the bearded man in the leather jacket and said in a deep voice:
"Hey, friend, you better tell those farmers you have to stop."

"We are demon hunters, we are here to find commissions, not to fight."

"And if there's a fight, a few pitchforks won't do me any favors."

Although the bearded man looked rude and savage, he had been wandering outside for a few years when he was young, and he had heard about the strength of these mutant freaks in front of him.

He knew very well that let alone these villagers with pitchforks, even if they sent a dozen soldiers, they might not necessarily be a match for a demon hunter.

What's more, there are still two on the opposite side.

Hearing Geralt's warning, he waved his hand to signal those young men with pitchforks and hoes not to be impulsive, and squinted their eyes to carefully look at the two witchers in front of them.

When he saw the amber cat eyes of the two, Geralt's long white hair, and Wayne's elf ears, he unconsciously showed disgust in his eyes.

"Get out of the village, demon hunter, there is no commission you are looking for here."

Geralt didn't force himself when he heard the words, shrugged, turned around, and whispered to Wayne:

"Don't be surprised, Wayne."

"The Kingdom of Kaedwen is almost the country that hates non-human races the most among all the northern kingdoms."

"The people in this country are mostly rude and savage, and have no respect for etiquette, especially their king Henselt. You can think of him as a wild boar, a robber, and a violent drunkard, not a king."

"This king doesn't have any great achievements, but the whole north knows that his favorite thing to do is to persecute non-human races, and try to kill the dwarves and elves in those cities."

"As demon hunters, we are also not welcome here, so I rarely look for commissions here."

"Let's go, continue to go west, and go down along the Ponta River. It will take about half a month to leave the Kingdom of Kaedwen."

Wayne nodded speechlessly, and was about to leave with Geralt.

Suddenly, she saw a hobbled old woman walking out of the village. She walked quickly to the side of the bearded man, pulled his sleeve, shed tears, as if she was begging for something.

The two quarreled for a few words, until the old woman was paralyzed on the ground, crying while hugging the bearded man's leg, the bearded man sighed, helped the old woman up, and shouted towards Wayne and Geralt:
"Hey, witcher, wait."

"We have a commission here."

Wayne and Geralt looked at each other, and when they saw a job coming, they turned and walked back to the bearded side, quietly looking at the old woman whose expression changed from sadness to joy.

Before Geralt could speak, Wayne asked first:
"What is your commission?"

Seeing Wayne being so active, Geralt gave him a surprised look, and suddenly remembered the quirk of this guy when he was in Kaer Morhen, he had to accept tasks every day to be motivated.

The middle-aged man with a beard glanced at Geralt, who was obviously older. Seeing that he had no objection, he turned his head to look at Wayne, who looked like a boy, and said in a rough voice:
"Two young men in our village are missing, and I entrust you to find them."

He supported the old woman with tears on his face beside him, with a hint of regret in his voice.

"This is the mother of the two brothers, Misha. Three days ago, her two sons went to the forest to the south to collect firewood, and they never came back."

"There are always wolves in the forest to the south."

"Although they may have turned into the dung of wild wolves, whether they are dead or alive, we need definite news, instead of giving hope to the living."

Having said that, the bearded man added a little embarrassingly:
"Of course, farmers like us are poor ghosts and don't have so many coins."

"Misha can make up to five ducats at most. She only has those two sons. If those two children die, Misha probably won't live until next year."

Wayne glanced at the sad old woman upon hearing this, feeling a little sympathetic in his heart.

Ducats were the currency of the Kaedwin Kingdom. He didn't know exactly how much purchasing power five ducats had, but thinking about it, the poor farmers who planed food in the fields probably wouldn't be able to spend much money.

After the bearded man finished speaking about the entrustment, a task reminder appeared in his mind.

Trigger task, [Looking for Misha's missing son], expert level.

Is it accepted?

Wayne was overjoyed that it was actually an expert-level task. According to the system's instructions, ordinary-level tasks were relatively simple and belonged to daily tasks, and did not even require combat.

The expert-level tasks are more difficult, belonging to the level that is difficult for ordinary people to complete, and there is a high probability of dangerous battles.

As for master-level missions and epic-level missions, they are very rare, difficult missions that may not be encountered once in a few years, and will even affect the direction of the world.

Although he really wanted to take over this task directly, but now he was a partner in the team with Geralt, so he couldn't do it his own way.

So, Wayne turned his head to look at Geralt, and asked the white wolf's opinion with his eyes.

Seeing him looking over, Geralt showed no expression on his paralyzed face, but he still nodded slightly with difficulty.

Wayne breathed a sigh of relief, and after choosing to accept the task in his mind, he smiled and said to the bearded man and Misha beside him:
"We can take on this commission."

"However, I'm already a little tired from this journey. You must provide us with a temporary rest house and prepare a decent lunch."

"When we regain our strength, we will carry out this commission."
