40k: Midnight Blade

Chapter 29: Chapter 29

Chapter 29 29. Through the Curtain
Khalil is dead.

Ghost is sure of that.

His eyes were closed, his lips were pale, he was not breathing, and his heart was not beating.By any standard, Khalil is dead.Even if his body is intact, he has already lost his vital signs.

Specter is already familiar with death, and he can be very sure of the authenticity of this matter.

After all, he has personally created many appalling massacres. Although his purpose is good, his means are cruel.

The Ghost knew that it was necessary, that he had understood the meaning of fear - Midnight Ghost could not be a symbolic name without frightening those who did evil.

The people of Nostramo needed a symbol of punishment. That's what Khalil said.

The ghost doesn't understand this, but he can understand the importance of this matter.

However, Khalil's death was somewhat different from those deaths. The ghost never thought he would die, and in his mind Khalil was omnipotent.

How could he die?
Ghost bowed his head.

Sadness and depression swept through his heart again. And, not so long ago, the deliverance promised by that voice has yet to be seen.

Am I cheated?he thinks.

+I'm not kidding you, Conrad Coates. +
The voice sounded again.

For some reason, Ghost was not surprised. And, this time, when it sounded, he didn't feel that cold shiver again.

Who is Conrad Coates?he thinks.

+ you. +
I don't have that name.

+ Accept it or not, it's up to you.I won't force it, I just hope that you can change your mind when we meet. Also, I'm really not kidding you. +
Then why did he.?

+Scientific healing methods are useless for a person who kills himself with psionic power, so the length of time is actually meaningless for his resurrection.I have done what I can, and the next step is to see whether his will is firm or not. +
What does this have to do with will?
+Because, the pain a ghost has to face in resurrection is no less than dying again. He will pass through the veil again, and all he will face in the process is his own demons. +
devil?

The ghost looked blankly at Khalil—or rather, at Khalil's body. The word echoed in his mind.

devil?

+You don't understand me.I see. Then, don't worry about it.Just wait, Conrad Coates. He'll wake me and your brother, too, is coming. +
who are you?
Ghost frowned. And my brother?Who are they?
+ You've seen it, haven't you?You have seen their likeness in visions that you have foreseen. As for who I am, I'll tell you when we meet, Conrad Coates. +
+ Also, take care of yourself. +
I don't remember, but thank you and goodbye.Ghost said in his heart.

Courtesy is very important.

This time, the voice didn't answer.Ghost tilted his head for some unknown reason, but could only remember the name——Conrad Koz?

What a strange name.

He turned to look at Khalil, who was still lifeless. No way, Ghost crouched down and began to watch motionlessly.

The voice said he wasn't lying to me.ghost thought.Hope he really doesn't.
-
I have been here.
Looking at the darkness around him, Khalil thought.

I have been here.He repeated it in his heart, then closed his eyes, and took a slow step forward.

The bone-piercing ice cold came immediately in the next moment.

Then, there was a heavy pulling sensation. His skin, flesh and blood, and even his bones were all grabbed by invisible claws. They are pervasive, penetrating into every detail of his body.

In an instant, 1 voices erupted frantically in my ears.

"Stay!" they screamed. "You belong here! Don't even think about leaving again!"

No, I don't belong here. I'm not like you.

Sighing, he endured the pain and continued to take a step forward.Just this one step, the world has undergone earth-shaking changes.

A familiar stench came over his face, and the unique air of Nostramo's lower nest welcomed him in the warmest way. Then there was the sound of rain, heavy rain.

Khalil opened his eyes.

He saw a boy, a wounded boy.Lying in the rainstorm covered in blood, he tightly held two sharp knives that were too big for him.

His face was full of hatred.

The boy looked up.

"It's you." He whispered, and his voice passed through the rain curtain and reached Khalil's ear precisely.

"It's me." Khalil nodded. "Get out of the way, okay?"

"Unless you have completed your revenge." The boy muttered to himself. "We agreed, ghosts—I'd give anything if you killed them."

"I'm done," Khalil replied calmly. "And you don't have to go any further."

He sighed and continued to move forward, and with each step, the tugging feeling became stronger.

Accompanied by more and more intense pain, the flesh and bones protested loudly, the nerves twitched, and blood overflowed from the mouth, nose, eyes, ears and pores, making him look extremely miserable.

Khalil was unmoved at all.

He wants to go back.

"Are you done?" the boy asked suspiciously. "Why can't I see anything?"

"Because...you don't actually exist, so you can't see it."

Khalil shook his head and suddenly laughed.

"If you want to blame, blame that head, he told me the truth." Khalil said with a smile. "But you probably won't see him anymore, I'm sorry."

The boy looked at him inexplicably, and coughed on the ground in the rain.Blood flowed from the wound on his body, but even so, he still did not let go of the two sharp blades in his hand.

After a while, he asked, "How did they die?"

"Killed by me."

"No, I want to know the exact method of death."

The boy said stubbornly, his face distorted abruptly in the rain, like a washed oil painting.

"We agreed, ghost, we agreed!"

coming.

Khalil lowered his head and replied, "I promised you would kill them, but that didn't include describing how they died to you in detail."

"But how do I know if you're lying to me?!"

The boy growled. "You took my body! I gave you everything, ghost! I just want revenge!"

Yeah, I took everything from you, yeah
Of course I know what I've done.

Khalil stopped, breathing calmly, and a complex emotion slowly rose between his brows and eyes.It seems to be regretful, but it also seems to be a kind of cold firmness.

He sighed softly, and said to the boy, "I have accomplished the revenge you wanted."

"But I didn't see it!"

The boy screamed, and his figure gradually became terrifying under the rain curtain. There was a kind of power that was fleeting, infusing this temporarily shaped memory with real power.

They came from darkness, and now they make a memory together into darkness itself.

In the rain, a huge monster stood up.

"I didn't see it!"

It growled, and its voice was like thunder.

"You failed me, you deceived me, ghost! You are a liar! You just stole my body, my name, and used them to do what you wanted!"

"I don't deny that."

Khalil replied calmly, but his hands had clenched into fists at some point. ".But, the revenge you wanted, I have already accomplished."

"Then let me see! Let me see their corpses. I want to see with my own eyes that everyone who participated in the destruction of the Rohars family was dismembered!"

"I can't do this." Khalil shook his head. "The dead are gone."

"I can't let you see what I see, child. You died a long time ago, and I never thought you were alive. So, you're just an echo behind a veil."

He pursed his lips and repeated.

"You came from behind the veil, and because of that, I cannot let you see my memory."

"Liar! A treacherous man!" roared the monster angrily, and rushed towards Khalil, its hands were two sharp and shining silver claws.

It waved them, and the rain curtain was cut to pieces in an instant, and the howling wind and its roar became one for a moment, becoming some kind of more terrible duet.

"You can call me whatever you want."

Khalil took a step back and escaped the blow without any risk, like a prophet. It seemed so simple for him to do it.

He raised his head, looked at the distorted face of the monster, and said calmly: "But, you and I both know that's not the case."

To his words, the monster returned a terrible glare. It panted heavily and laughed lowly in the rain.

"A liar's lie!"

No, I am not.I'm not lying either.

Khalil closed his eyes and said no more—words were of no use in a situation like this, and he was not dealing with a persuasive, sane creature.

That child died 13 years ago, on that rainy night.Born of sin and the blood of his victims, he grew up sucking their flesh. He summoned a wandering ghost before dying.

With boundless hatred, boundless sin, and his own blood.

The harsh wind sound hit again, and Kalil turned his head slightly to avoid the blow.In the rain curtain, there were successive roars. The monster attacked him fiercely, but it never hit Khalil.

"Fight back, liar! Could it be that you have a guilty conscience?!"

NO, I have not.

"Fight me! Kill me, or suffer here with me!"

The monster screamed, and the sound changed again, and the 1 voices screaming in Khalil's ears before also came, mixed with its roar, and became more and more deafening.

"You belong here, you can't leave!"

No, I don't belong here.

Khalil opened his eyes, and there was a subtle golden light flashing in the dark eyes.

He gritted his teeth, and burning heat lit up from his fingers—and then, golden flames burst out in the rain, scorching them all.

A scream followed.

The monster shrank back, retreating again and again, and its huge body began to shrink. The darkness was dispelled, and a stench that was different from the sour smell of Nostramo's nest came to the face, and then, there was a crackling sound.

Burned like rotting bones.

"The kid I made a deal with died 13 years ago, you're not him."

Khalil spoke in a low voice. "I want to leave, so I will definitely leave. No matter how many tricks you play."

"Traitor! Liar! Presumptuous!"

The monster in the darkness cried out in a shrill voice, shrill and ridiculous. "The Fire Stealer will devour you! He will leave you dead, and he will have no mercy on you!"

"Fire Thief Prometheus?"

Khalil was slightly taken aback, then suddenly burst out laughing.

The golden flames erupted again, and the curtain was burned and shaken, followed by a feeling of cold trembling. He closed his eyes, letting the pain take away what was left of him.

Then, the next second—among the unwilling roars that sounded in the darkness, a real light came from Khalil's closed eyes.
