Chapter 14: Chapter 14

Chapter 14 14. Starting tomorrow

They sat silently in chairs for a while.

No one spoke, as if observing the traces of the flow of time, for fear of breaking the silence.

No one passed by on the road, only a few cars on the night shift came with the sound of engines every few minutes.

The headlights flicked past from time to time, illuminating their faces and bodies, and then faded away quietly like waves lapping on the shore, leaving only the slight noise of tires rolling over the ground.

The clouds at night filled the sky like a delicate black gauze.

Obviously I couldn't feel the wind, but the moon finally appeared from behind the clouds a little bit, revealing half a crescent, and then turned into a round cake.

After the last two hisses, the street lamp above the head seemed to have been repaired suddenly, and it never flickered again.

Small insects similar to fireflies flew randomly in the field of vision, and their trajectories were irregular.

"Sorry." Ai Hoshino said in a dry voice, probably to sort out her emotions.

"Drink?"

"Ah."

She unscrewed the cap and just took a sip, like a cat.

After drinking the water, she coughed twice, held the bottle and the sunflower in her hands, hid her hands between her legs, turned her face to Taku Makimura, and said, "Scared you?"

"No."

"That's good."

"What's wrong with you?" Makimura Taku just asked her this question with concern.

She felt a little bit in her heart: "I'm sorry... I'm just too happy."

"I don't apologize when I'm happy."

"That's right."

She smiled, and then kept staring at a certain place on the ground, giving people the feeling of sighing, but in fact, the smile was too shallow, as if floating on the water.

She said softly: "When you left just now, it was so quiet here."

Mu Cuntuo looked at her, she loosened the bottle cap in her hand, and subconsciously tightened it again.

"No sound at all," she went on, "people, cats, crows. No cars, no wind, why?" She seemed to be asking herself, "Everything is fine, a mess of sounds It's all right, there must be something."

Speaking of this, she shook the sunflower in her hand twice, and the petals moved back and forth between light and darkness.

"Hey, Mucun," she asked, "tell me, isn't this feeling very annoying?"

"No one likes it."

"Hmm...it seems to have been thrown away."

"Probably so."

"It's disgusting."

"Ah."

"But when you think about it, it's nothing," she said. "It's just dark and quiet."

The moon was covered in fog again, and the street lamps stretched their shadows on the ground.

"But..." Ai Hoshino turned her head away.

She still looks very calm, like standing on the ruins watching the sunrise at the second before the end of the world.

She was supposed to smile next—she was ready to smile.

But when he saw Makimura Taku, when he saw someone sitting next to him, looking at him with such soft eyes, the strength on his face couldn't be held back no matter what.

Her pupils began to vibrate vigorously, as if a major earthquake had occurred inside, and as if they were clearly reflecting the frequency of the heartbeat.

A crystal clear tear slid down from the corner of her freshly wiped eye, but it didn't reach the ground, but just stopped on her face, leaving a long tear trail as if imprisoned by time.

"But...but..." She repeated in a very trembling voice, but stopped at these two words.

It seemed that if she continued speaking, even half a syllable more, her tears would rush out like a flood that burst a bank.

"But...but..."

Mu Cuntuo still looked at her, she didn't care to put down the flowers, and directly wiped the second and third tear stains that slipped down with the palm of her hand.

"But, but."

"Why are you crying?" Makimura said.

The surroundings seemed to have disappeared even the darkness, leaving only Takumi Makimura sitting there.

Hoshino Ai stared at him, as if a crack had suddenly opened in her chest.

She felt her throat was so sore, she wanted to say a lot, but she couldn't.

That voice was so gentle, it was as gentle as sunlight shining on the body, but it was also very sharp, capable of piercing through the hardest psychological defense line of a person at once.

She hurriedly tried to wipe away all the tears, but she couldn't finish them. The tears fell drop by drop just like the beginning of a summer rain.

"I don't, no."

"What's wrong?"

"No, really."

"lie."

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I really, I don't want to be so sad." She said in a crying voice, "It's such an inconspicuous little thing."

"Then laugh."

"But, Mucun..."

"what happened?"

"But……"

"It's okay, it's okay."

"Makimura..."

"I'm here."

"..."

She froze there, really wanted to cry, but held back.

That night, the petals were soaked in tears and became like paper.

The next morning, Mucuntuo got up early as usual, and went to exercise in the birch forest. When he came back, Ai Hoshino had washed and dried her hair, and was sitting in the seat waiting for him.

"I am back."

"Welcome back~" Ai Hoshino said with a smile.

That morning, the weather was fine and the wind was very light. There were two sunflowers in the sun romantically. They hadn’t bought glass bottles yet, but they were just placed on the table. It's perfect for a morning out and about, but they didn't do anything.

Hoshino Ai said that she wanted to make a plan list and write down all the things to be done next. Mucun Taku said yes with a smile, so she stayed in the room with her.

"At six o'clock in the morning, wake up Makimura Taku. At seven o'clock in the morning, eat with Makimura Taku. At eight o'clock in the morning, go out with Makimura Taku." She wrote on the paper with a pencil.

"Wait," Makimura corrected her, "I got up earlier than you, so I should have woken you up."

"Whoever wakes up first will call the other person."

"no problem."

She went on to write:

08:30, go out for a walk.

At nine o'clock, go to the pet shop to tease the cat.

09:30, to...

I kept writing like this, until ten o'clock in the evening before I stopped:

At ten o'clock in the evening, go home and sleep.

"You're done!"

"Is the line too full?"

Hoshino Ai smiled mischievously at him.

At noon, the two found a random shop to have lunch, and quickly came out of the shop.

According to the plan list, they first took the bus to Baisi Waterfall.

In the commercial street near the waterfall, an old man was selling grilled fish. They bought two. After returning to the waterfall, they sat on the smooth stone together, eating grilled fish and watching the scenery.

There is an endless stream of sounds in my ears, occasionally accompanied by a bird call, like a lark.

They felt as if they could fall asleep at any moment, as if the air had been filled with something like a sleeping pill, but the wind was refreshing and they stared at the waterfall.

At two o'clock, the two left from Shiraito Falls and went to Karuizawa Senju Hiroshi Art Museum.

When they encountered a traffic light on the way, they waited at the intersection, but the red light never turned green.

A dozen or so cars passed by, and someone led a group of ducklings onto the sidewalk, and squirrels blinked their eyes into the pine forest. One bite, definitely sweet.

When they reached the perimeter of the art museum, they walked around the Lishanfang Coffee House, and several silver-gray buildings came into view first.

The two entered through the main entrance together. As soon as they entered, it was like walking into a pure forest. There were fresh green and white everywhere, and the eyes were bright and open.

They looked at the paintings one by one, including waterfalls, freshwater lakes, black mountains, and small towns at night, all of which were unique, and they stayed in the museum for about an hour.

After coming out, Ai Hoshino stretched her waist, her moaning sound was like a whisper in sleep.

"tired?"

"I really want to take pictures," she said.

"Photograph?"

"Shoot us both."

"Isn't that okay anytime?"

"Go use the sticker machine."

"also."

The photo sticker machine was hidden in an unremarkable small house, but fortunately there was a signboard at the door, and they walked in to take pictures.

"Is your expression too pale?"

"I do."

"Smile."

"As much as possible."

There was a click, and the photo was taken. They wanted to print two copies, but there was only one film left in the machine, so they had to take that one.

In the photo, Hoshino Ai showed a cute smile and beckoned to the camera, her body was very close to Makimura Taku, almost connected, but that's all.

Mucun Taku had a faint smile on his face, as if he saw something he liked and suddenly smiled knowingly.

"It's okay~" Hoshino Ai took the photo and looked at it repeatedly, but she couldn't tell whether she was satisfied or not by the tone of her voice.

"It's enough to pat your face in." Mu Cuntuo comforted her.

After leaving the photo posting area, they did a lot of things according to the plan list.

Rent a fishing rod to fish, throw stones and enjoy the wind by the clear and transparent river, try a new dessert from a store, watch the wonderful performances of street performers, and go to a bookstore to read together.

"What books do you like?" Hoshino Ai asked him in a low voice in the bookstore.

"secret."

"I know... The Great Gatsby?"

"That one is my favourite."

"Anything else?"

"Have."

"Say it."

"secret."

She pondered for a while and said, "I like "The Little Prince."

Makimura Taku glanced at her, thinking: "Natsume Soseki, Mishima Yukio, Matsuo Basho, Hemingway, Romain Rolland, Françoise, Murakami Haruki, Claudel, Akutagawa Ryunosuke, Keigo Higashino, Junichi Watanabe, Strilkie, Ogai Mori..."

"what are you saying……"

"My favorite is still Fitzrajde's book."

She put down a children's book in her hand, and suddenly felt that reading was boring.

As the sun went down on the western mountains, they walked across a bridge, and the direction of the wind changed, from the north wind at noon to now blowing from the east.

The gust of wind blew Hoshino Ai's hair up, and she didn't care at all, staring at the ground like a child, stepping forward on the shadow.

The orange light illuminated the dusk, and when it reached a certain place, the phantoms of the body became several, and then suddenly blended together at a certain place.

When the two reached the middle of the bridge, Hoshino Ai stopped in front of her, and Makimura Taku also stopped.

When she turned around, the wind seemed to increase instantly.

She was wearing yesterday's pure white dress with suspenders, her shoes were also white, and she was wearing a light blue denim jacket without buttons, but her chest was covered by the lace fabric inside.

The wind touched everything on her body, and the girl was as light as a cloud that just appeared.

They looked at each other through the warm air for a long time, in fact, it was only two or three seconds, but Makimura Taku always felt that the time was infinitely stretched, as if several springs and autumns had passed.

"Makimura," Hoshino Ai said, "thank you."

"Thank you all of a sudden."

She turned a deaf ear, as if listening to the wind, and the wind changed again.

After ten o'clock in the evening, they returned to the hotel, and Ai Hoshino pressed the photos taken in the afternoon under a sunflower.

They didn't go to sleep right away, they just showered and sat by the lamps and watched the sky darken until it couldn't get any darker.

"I haven't finished the things on the plan list yet." Ai Hoshino murmured in the direction of the bamboo forest.

"Then we can do it tomorrow." Mu Cuntuo said.

Ai Hoshino nodded, took out his "The Great Gatsby" and flipped through it until very late, Takuo Makimura went to bed first.

When she got up in the morning, Ai Hoshino left with only her suitcase.

The lamp was off, and the book was still on the table.
