Chapter 20 The city is so empty
Stepping into the secret realm, the weather suddenly darkened, as if from dawn to dusk.

A foul smell rushed towards him. The smell reminded Luke of an ogre hut in the jungle, as if the corpses that had accumulated for an unknown number of days were fermented.

Luke followed the smell, deviated from the road, and explored the woods on the west side.

Before he had gone far, he was so keen that he discovered a hidden steep slope. He descended slowly along the steep slope. At the bottom of the steep slope was a large pit with a radius of tens of meters. The pit was filled with animal carcasses and skeletons. They looked fresh, but some were rotten and spoiled. Maggots wriggled and crawled on them, and occasionally lowered their heads to feast on the corpse, gnawing at the rotten protein with their mouthparts.

Luke stepped on the loose dirt, feeling the clammy mud soak his boots. His nose was filled with a dull damp smell, accompanied by the smell of rotting protein.

He could barely hear his own breathing, only the frantic buzzing of insects around him.

The sound of his arrival seemed to startle the flying mosquitoes, and they dispersed with a "buzzing", like a yellow gust of wind passing over his face, turning into a shadow covering the sky and the sun.

Luke covered his mouth and nose with one hand, and kept waving the repellent with the other hand. The Nighthawk standing on his shoulders spread its wide wings in time, blowing a strong wind to blow the mosquitoes away.

The mosquitoes got used to the people coming, and after gradually returning to calm, Luke slowed down and explored the depths along the periphery of the pothole.

After crossing the corpse pit, the jungle became normal and calm again. Until he passed through the jungle and returned to the trail, nothing unusual happened again.

Luke returned to the asphalt road, rubbed his feet on the curb vigorously, wiped off the mud attached to the soles of his feet, and walked towards the town at the end of the road.

There is a dilapidated signboard at the intersection of the town, and the slogan "Welcome to Ambrose Town" can be barely seen through the damaged font.

He commanded Harpy on his shoulder to fly into the sky through spiritual power, patrolled and guarded, adjusted his equipment, and stepped into the town.

The air here is strangely still, save for the faint rustling of the branches as the breeze brushes through them. The sound of his footsteps was very clear on the empty road, as if breaking the silence.

The walls on both sides of the road were plastered crookedly with contest posters of the "Ambrose Town Beauty Pageant". At the end of the road was a pure white church.

He continued to walk forward, but still didn't see anyone, as if the whole town had been abandoned by humans.

Luke walked towards the white church, passed through the rusty iron fence, and stepped up four or five steps. Luke stood at the side of the door and pushed open half of the door. He didn't go in directly, but first Jump and dodge outwards agilely.

For a long while, there was no movement in the church. Luke, who had been battling wits and courage with the air for a long time, walked quietly to the opened door, peeping in with half of his face.

The circular rose window occupies 1/4 of the space of the wall, and the interior of the church, which is supposed to be well-lit, looks dark and gloomy.

There were a few people sitting sparsely in the front row of the church. On the altar, a priest with a gentle face stood and seemed to be saying something.

Luke just took a look, and immediately realized that something was wrong.

The church was too quiet, and the priest and believers also kept the same posture, motionless, as if they had been frozen.

Luke stepped into the church, agitating his psychic powers to enhance his five senses, preventing possible sudden attacks.

He walked into the depths of the church and looked up and down at these believers and priests. Although they looked like people from a distance, their skin was made of wax when they looked closer. They turned out to be wax figures placed on display.

There is a coffin under the altar, and there is also a wax figure in the coffin.

He walked forward slowly, about to check the reality.

Standing next to the coffin was a wax figure in a windbreaker, and suddenly there was a trace of a living thing in its eyes.

The door of the church closed automatically without wind, making a loud "bang".

The already not very bright environment of the church suddenly became darker.

Startled by the sudden change, Luke turned around with his gun and aimed at the door, but saw no sign of anyone.

He hid behind a pillar on one side, ready to deal with the sudden change of the enemy.

There was silence in the church. Suddenly, Luke heard a faint rustling sound next to him.

He turned his head to look, and saw a wax figure standing up quietly, trying to approach in the dark.

Luke's body tensed instantly, he quickly turned around with the gun, and pulled the trigger. The wax figure not far away was torn apart by the huge impact of the lead bullet, and a ray of energy appeared, which was absorbed by the ability seedlings and became the nutrient for Luke's evolution .

This shot was like stabbing a hornet's nest. The wax figures in the church all turned their heads and stared at Luke fiercely. Their mouths opened to a strange width, as if they were screaming silently, and then they rushed up and ran towards him.

Luke glanced roughly, and after finishing one wax figure, there were at least ten more in the church.Supported by one hand, he rolled over two rows of benches in one breath, keeping a safe distance from the wax figure running towards him.

The Winchester in his hand fired continuously, calling and blasting the three wax figures closest to him one by one.

The remaining wax figures did not seem to have human thinking. After tripping over the bench, they raised their pale heads, grinned and roared silently, and quickly climbed towards Luke with their limbs on the ground.

Luke retreated and observed, and hid on the other side of the church. The dense benches in the room became an excellent stumbling block, helping Luke hinder the pursuit of the wax figure.

Two wax figures climbed out of the range of the bench and entered Winchester's range.

The shooting ability that Luke has been honing has been given room to play, so that at close range, aiming is not needed, and the gun is fired twice, and the precise headshot makes the two wax figures collapse on the ground and turns into experience.

After cleaning up the six wax figures, the situation in the church became much clearer, and there were still five wax figures left at a glance.

Luke didn't have time to reload, so he held the gun body upside down, aiming at the wax figure that charged the fastest among them. The thick butt of Winchester fell heavily with the light of lightning and flames.

The erupting thunder fire seemed to ignite the wax figure, its facial features instantly melted, and it fell to the ground and convulsed.

The other four wax figures also arrived one after another.

A wax figure's arm was attacking Luke, he dodged it, and at the same time quickly locked on the enemy on the right to meet him, and the gun butt in his hand hit the wax figure's head.

The thunder fire sparked and the wax figure melted.

Luke's ability seemed to restrain these wax figures by nature. After being hit by the psychic thunderfire, the flames in it seemed to directly burn the original energy of the wax figures. Just a normal direct hit made them fall to the ground completely, although they looked still Not eliminated, but has completely lost the ability to move.

The first wax figure that was knocked down by Thunderfire and melted suddenly solidified after a short struggle, lost its activity, and turned into ordinary wax figure fragments, and the ability seedlings quietly gained some experience.
