Chapter 5 The Curse of the Serpent

Chapter 5 The Curse of the Serpent
Zhang Xianren stared at grandma's body with a look of embarrassment on his face. He happened to walk up to me at this time. He approached me and sniffed my nose in an unscrupulous manner. He frowned and muttered: "It smells like a snake!"

I blushed slightly, and took a step back. Zhang Xianren gave me a strange look and said, "You stay, and everyone else goes out."

After all the people in the mourning hall went out, Zhang Xianren took out a cloth bag, grabbed glutinous rice flour from it, and sprinkled it twice around grandma's coffin. The coffin was covered with glutinous rice flour to form a white blanket.

Zhang Xianren took out another three-legged copper-green censer and said to me with a half-smile: "You hold the censer, no matter what happens later, don't let go."

I nodded, took the incense burner tremblingly, knelt in front of the coffin, watched Zhang Xianren take out a yellow talisman from his pocket, bit his finger and drew it twice, I don't know what I was muttering.

Then, he drank, and slapped the yellow talisman on grandma's forehead.

Suddenly, there was a puff of black smoke from the coffin, and the smoke drifted out, slowly condensing in the air, gradually forming a strange snake head, roaring towards me like a ferocious snake.

The incense burner in my hand trembled, and I almost fell. Zhang Xianren seemed to have never seen this scene before, and muttered in disbelief: "It's so strange, Guizi, is he so dazed?"

The next moment, the black smoke snake's head dissipated, and there were rustling sounds around the coffin out of thin air.

Wisps of black smoke came out from grandma's body, winding towards the floor covered with glutinous rice flour and incense ash, like countless snakes swimming on the ground, all swimming towards the incense burner in my hand, one after another quickly into the furnace.

The last black snake got in, Zhang Xianren quickly covered the incense burner, only to hear the tinkling sound from the incense burner, the lid kept being pushed up, and the things inside struggled to come out.

Seeing this, Zhang Xianren took out a handful of cinnabar and sprinkled it on the incense burner. He only heard the sound of "sizzling", and the stove began to shake violently. There seemed to be an unwilling neighing inside, but it quieted down after a while.

When I opened the furnace cover, I found that the inside was empty, only the layers of snake scales on the furnace wall remained, and there was a hideous snake face in the middle.

My hairs stood on end when I saw it, and I quickly threw away the incense burner.

Zhang Xianren wiped the cold sweat off his forehead, and told his aunt in a low voice that the corpse cannot be left for three days, and that it will be buried in the ground tomorrow morning.

My aunt believed in Zhang Xianren's words and nodded repeatedly.

Before leaving, Zhang Xianren said to me with a meaningful sneer: "The snake is not dead, it may have been relying on your blood essence to increase its cultivation, this is a debt owed by your Bai family..."

After Zhang Xianren explained the matter, he left in a hurry with a sullen face.

Grandma died so badly that no one came to eat the funeral, and they were all afraid of being tainted with bad luck.

After nightfall, the village was dead silent. I locked the gate and lit a few more candles.

But I always feel that the mourning hall is a little gloomy. The black and white photo of my grandma is smiling. She was a kind person at first, but no matter how I look at this photo, I have a kind of eerie feeling.

It looks like my grandma has been staring at me, and it makes me feel scared.

A few candles were lit next to the coffin, and the candle flames were blowing in the wind.

Auntie is very timid, although she didn't say it, but she can tell from her slightly pale expression.

"Yaoyao, you talk to me, the mourning hall is so quiet and scary." My aunt moved to my side and said to me in a low voice.

I pulled myself together, nodded and said, "Okay!"

As soon as the words were out of my mouth, my aunt suddenly jumped up, her face was pale, and she looked very scared. Her voice was a little trembling and she asked me if I heard any strange sounds.

I also became nervous in my heart, but after listening for a while, apart from the cool wind, there was only the sound of candles being blown, and there was no other sound.

The wind was cold, blowing into the endless darkness outside.

At this moment, suddenly there were a few seemingly invisible knocks on the door of the courtyard, which scared me so much that the hairs all over my body stood on end.

My aunt jumped up from the stool and asked me with a frightened face, who was knocking on the door.

I quickly made a silent gesture for her, and hurriedly signaled her not to speak.

When he picked up the broom against the gate, the knocking stopped abruptly.

After listening carefully for a while, the voice disappeared without a trace, and I was relieved.

"It should be blown by the wind!" I whispered uncertainly.

After the meeting, my aunt said she wanted to go to the latrine, but she was afraid to go alone, so I went with her.

The hut outside grandma's house was still the old pigsty. Although there are no pigs now, the inside is very smelly. It is covered with wooden boards and blocked by a rag curtain.

I took out my mobile phone to light up, and when I was standing outside the hut waiting for my aunt, I suddenly heard a crisp click from the mourning hall behind.

I turned my head and looked, and was startled. For some reason, there were only a few sparks left on the ever-burning lamp on the coffin, and it looked like it was about to go out.

There was a strange smell in the air, a bit like the smell of something rotten, and I was a little hairy.

I called my aunt.

But by coincidence, the closed courtyard door opened with a creak, and a gust of wind suddenly blew in. The yellow paper piled on the ground at the entrance of the hall was blown everywhere, and the ever-burning lamp was blown out all at once. .

The entire mourning hall suddenly went dark, and there was a gust of wind in the courtyard, which made my skin crawl all over.

The rancid smell in the coffin spread immediately, making me retch, and hearing my anxious call, my aunt came out of the hut with her trousers in her hands.

But when he looked towards the main room, he was so frightened that a piercing scream came out of his mouth.

I hurriedly covered my aunt's mouth, and dragged her into the shadow of the nearby pigsty.

The night was dark and the wind was high, and the moonlight was slightly chilly. Although it was not a full moon tonight, the moonlight was full, reflecting mottledly on the black coffin.

As the long light was suddenly blown out by the wind, I watched the coffin tremble several times from a distance, and a figure sat up from the coffin.

The corpse has changed.

My aunt stared at the cowbell and struggled to let out a terrified whine. My scalp was numb and I tightly covered her mouth, for fear that she would make a sound.

My back was dripping with cold sweat, my hands were wet, and my aunt was scared out of her wits.

The moment grandma sat up abruptly from the coffin, the white cloth covering her head slipped down, revealing that unrecognizable face.

"I will find the right time to go out to find Zhang Xianren, and I will attract her attention." I said to my aunt tremblingly.

There is only the courtyard door to go out. Although we are on the other side of the courtyard, we have to go through the door of the main room.

My aunt was so frightened that she collapsed, she had never seen such a terrifying scene before, she was so shivering that she almost sat on the ground.

I was actually terrified too, but the situation in front of me was too much to think about.

The sky darkened again, and when I looked up, the moon seemed to be afraid of something, and quietly hid in the dark clouds.
