Chapter 890 Biography of Zhuge Liang in the Later Han Dynasty

Chapter 890 The Book of the Later Han·The Biography of Zhuge Liang
Zhuge Liang, also known as Kongming, was born in Yangdu, Langya, and was the Empress of Zhuge Feng, the official of the Han Dynasty.

Liang lost his mother when he was three years old, and his father Gui, named Jungong, was the magistrate of Taishan County. He died in the official position in the sixth year of Zhongping. Liang was eight years old. He served as an official from his father Xuanshi. When he heard that his brother had died, Xuzhou was in chaos, so he gave up his official position and returned home. Liang brothers and sisters learned from Xuan.

In the second year of Zhenguan, the Xuzhou Prefecture School was established. Liang and his younger brother both entered the Prefecture School. Liang was very talented and won the first place in all the Prefectural School examinations, which made teachers and students happy.

In the sixth year, Emperor Shizong held an imperial examination to select scholars. He won three consecutive examinations and entered Luoyang. He was named the number one scholar. Emperor Shizong gave him a gold-colored sweat-blooded horse. Liang entered the cabinet to observe the government. During the third month, the ministers called him Neng.

At the beginning, many people in Yizhou made a living by selling native people. The natives were afraid and started to cause chaos. There was great chaos in southern Xinjiang. General Liu Sheng, who conquered the barbarians, sent troops to fight against them and defeated them. When Shi Liang was in charge of logistics affairs, Chen Qun, the official of the cabinet hall, was in charge of logistics. In June, there were many Emperor Shizong was pleased with his political achievements and promoted him to the ninth rank.

At the beginning of the seventh year, Liang served as the representative of the collective farm in Jiexiu County. He was moved to Jiexiu County as a county official, and then moved to Taiyuan County. In the ninth year, Liang was appointed as the Jiexiu County Magistrate. He had many political achievements and was ranked first in the county in all evaluations. .

In the 11th year, Liang was moved to the cabinet. The next year, he was moved to the court and was promoted to the fifth rank. He was different from the government and the public. There were criticisms. When people told him, Liang looked as usual and said: "This is an ordinary thing, not worthy of the Tao."

In the 13th year of his reign, King Sejong conquered Japan, and Liang used the cabinet hall officials to coordinate the three logistics arrangements. The army met all the needs of the expedition, no matter how big or small, and there were no mistakes. People at the time called it, Liang's expression was the same as usual, and everyone was surprised.

In September, Guan Yu, the general who conquered the south, conquered Shanyue, and Liang resumed his post of logistics affairs. Yu praised Liang's ability and Emperor Shizong was pleased, and promoted Liang to the fourth rank.

In October, Emperor Shizong's teacher Lu Zhi died of illness. Emperor Shizong was very sad and wanted to supervise the aftermath.

In November, Zheng Xuan, the Minister of the First Academy of Sciences, passed away. Shizong was also sad, and Liang took charge of the funeral affairs.

In 14 years, Sejong reorganized the cabinet, and Liang was appointed as the assistant minister of the third-grade cabinet, in charge of the Grand Canal affairs. The next year, Sejong granted the title of Prince Ze to the Western Qin State, and the cabinet was appointed as the assistant minister of Lu Yi, in charge of logistics affairs. He asked Liang for help, and Liang followed him.

In the 15th year of the year, chaos broke out in Yunzhou, and the Tubarbarians were in chaos. People from the Piao Kingdom in the south entered the army and conspired with the Tubarbarians. They destroyed dozens of collective farms and plundered the people. Liu Sheng attacked them, but the food supply could not be continued, so he was unable to conquer them. Yunzhou was shaken.

At that time, Han Hao, the governor of Yunzhou, was seriously ill. Liang recommended himself as the governor of Yunzhou, and Shizong followed.

At the beginning, Yunzhou was the hometown of Yizhou. In the sixth year of Zhenguan, Yizhou was in chaos. After the war, the southern border of Yizhou was established as Yunzhou. The army was stationed in Yunzhou. , the people are happy.

However, the Yizhou people's plundering of the local people was repeatedly banned. The local people were troubled by this and asked the government for help. Shizong issued several edicts, but the government could not stop it. Shizong was angry and said: "It is easy to get rid of thieves in the mountains, but it is difficult to get rid of thieves in the heart."

So he was punished with severe punishments and severe laws. As a result, there were many resentful people in Yizhou, and those who violated the prohibition were frequently violated. The offenders were numerous, even in the areas of Jing and Jiao, and in counties with thousands of households, thousands of households followed them. Shizong considered it a personal trouble.

Hou Liang, Sun Zhong and Zhang Yun galloped into Yunzhou to rectify the state affairs. In the first month, they were in compliance, and Sheng again marched to attack them. In the third month, they were defeated. Sheng marched south for more than a hundred miles, chasing Piao's army in the southern border, and Piao's people were far away. After escaping, Yunzhou was leveled.

Liang made a statement and said: The native people of Yunzhou are all obedient, and those who may cause rebellion are all forced by the invading people of Yi, Jing, and Jiao. Some have lost their fathers and mothers, some have lost their sons and daughters, and their fathers and elders see their ministers. Everyone shed tears, and even an old man pointed at a child and asked where his parents were.

Or maybe they are all Han subjects, why would they harm each other?I am also moved by this, but I really cannot bear to be harshly criticized. Although the chaos has calmed down now, if the invaders of Yi, Jing, and Jiao attack the people again, even if there is an army of [-], the chaos will break out again, so I boldly say this.

Although the offenders in Yi, Jing, and Jiao were prohibited by severe punishments and laws, I heard that the native people in the Central Plains were in short supply. If they went back and forth once, they would make ten times the profit. Everyone is greedy. If they are not restrained, the law will be stricter, and the offender will The more people there are, the more endless they become.

In the past, His Majesty said that Han people were not allowed to be slaves, but native people could be slaves, and he opened the ban on native people. However, they all obeyed and became our citizens and became our people. Why not become Han people? It's just that they don't understand the language and have a slightly different appearance. Even though they are our people, they are also natives, and the government can't tell them apart.

The only current plan is, firstly, to set up prefectural schools and county schools in Yunzhou, to recruit the people of Yunzhou and teach them knowledge; secondly, to set up collective farms widely and teach the native people of Yunzhou Chinese characters; thirdly, pursue The responsibilities of Suoyi, Jing, and Jiao for offending the people were clearly stated in the law. Once they violated the prohibition, they were never allowed to leave the county and were imprisoned in their respective places to deter the offenders.

The fourth is the most important thing. I hope that your Majesty will forever ban the trade of people. Without the trade of people, the subjects will be unprofitable. Yunzhou's difficulties will be solved by itself. The local people will be respectful and will be grateful for your kindness. In this way, Then Yunzhou will always guard the southern frontier for the Han Dynasty, and the southern frontier of the Han Dynasty will no longer be in harm's way.

Emperor Shizong was worried about the ban after he got it, and said: It is easy to ban, but if the people of the Central Plains have resentment, what can be done if there are strategies at the top and countermeasures at the bottom?
Liang went to the table again and said: The reason why subjects break the ban is to gain profits. The more serious the benefits, the more offenders will be. It cannot be prohibited by law. Forcing them to ban them may cause criticism and unsettle the hearts of the people in the Central Plains. Therefore, there is no benefit to them. Figure, or the consumption exceeds the income, then this is difficult to explain.

I would like to suggest that, firstly, the road tax card can be made to double the tax on the natives for transportation, and each tax card must be paid. If you do not pay it, you will not be allowed to pass. Secondly, the government of the place where the sale is made can be made to double the tax on the natives for buying and selling. If If you don't hand it over, you can't sell it. If you sell it, you will be arrested, ordered to serve, and fined twice as much.

As a result, such expenditure exceeds the expenses required by the farmhands, which makes the farmhands' families unsustainable and the transporters unprofitable. This can greatly reduce the amount of trade among the natives of the Central Plains. If there are still smugglers and smugglers, then If it is targeted by laws and regulations, it will be justified.

In this way, the demand in the Central Plains will be greatly reduced, and those who break the ban in Jingzhou, Jiaozhou, and Yizhou will have no profit, and Yunzhou will be stable. If we use enlightenment strategies to pacify Yunzhou, Yunzhou will be safe, and those who are cowardly will not dare to come. If they come, use the power of the Yunzhou elders to attack them and they will surely win.

When Emperor Shizong heard about it, he was delighted, said it was good, and implemented it. Within one or two years, the number of people violating the ban in Jingzhou, Jiaozhou, and Yizhou was greatly reduced, and Yunzhou was at peace.

In the 16th year of Zhenguan, Piao State invaded Yunzhou territory again. At that time, Liu Sheng was ill, and his successor Zhang Ren led his troops to attack him, chased him out and chased him [-] miles away.

After the army was out, the logistics were difficult. However, Liang sent Yunzhou's elders to eat pots of pulp to support him. The soldiers and the people were united, morale was greatly boosted, and they won a great victory. They killed King Piao and captured [-] Piao people.

Shizong was overjoyed and said: Those who are good at fighting have no outstanding achievements, but I think that the victory of the Southern Kingdom is the first achievement of Liang.

In the fourth year of the Liang Dynasty, Yunzhou was established with one school, five county schools, 37 county schools, and more than [-] collective farms. Farm tools and grain seeds from the Central Plains were introduced to Yunzhou and spread throughout Yunzhou. , so he did not pick up things on the road, did not close his house at night, and often went out incognito to patrol the territory of Yunzhou. The elders all praised Liang for his good governance and called him "Grandpa".

In the 20th year, Liang returned from the imperial edict. The elders in Yunzhou wept and couldn't bear to leave. The farewell crowd blocked the road. For more than ten miles, Liang's car was not allowed to drive, so he got off the car and walked. However, every time he arrived at a county, the elders all wept. I can't bear the tears to say goodbye, and it's difficult to travel brightly.

Liang returned to Luoyang, was awarded the title of Marquis of Yangdu County, and became an assistant minister of the cabinet.

At the beginning, Shizong planned to retreat after becoming a state. He had long wanted to retreat, so he granted the Western Qin State to the hometown of Kangju in 15 years, the Western Shu State to the hometown of Guishang in the 17th year, and the Western Jin State to Shendu in the 19th year. In the 20th year, the Western Wei and Western Yan were sealed outside the territory, and then all the disciples were sealed outside the territory.

When things were done, Emperor Shizong wanted to retreat, so he asked Liang, who said: "The prince has been in government for a long time, and he is talented and talented. He is worthy of being a leader in the world."

Shizong laughed and said: If you are honest, you are not afraid of my anger?
Liang also smiled and said: Your Majesty treats his ministers with sincerity, and I also treat your majesty with sincerity. There is absolutely no difference of heart.

Shizong was overjoyed, held up his bright hand, and said, "Why should I be afraid of a minister like this?"
Then he issued an edict, saying that the prince had been in the government for a long time and had a reputation as a virtuous person. He could be the king of a country and preside over the government. He then retreated to the throne to preside over the government. From then on, he stopped going to the court and did not manage the government.

At that time, although Renzong did not have the name of emperor, he had the actual status of emperor. Renzong regarded Liang as his humerus and relied on many people. At that time, everyone thought that Liang did not have the name of Prime Minister and Fu, but he had the actual status of Prime Minister and Fu. Suddenly, guests came to the door and flocked to him like ducks. , there are many cars and horses in the gates, and even the roads are blocked.

Liang was respectful and always interacted with people in the government and the public. When he retired from the court, he closed the door and did not welcome guests. He did not accept any gifts and did not accept any requests. Therefore, as an official official of the imperial court, he did not dare to show favoritism. .

Ranliang also entered Jiang Wei, Deng Ai, Chen Tai, Jiang Wan, Fei Yi, Chen Qiong, Ma Fu, Jiang Ying, Zhou Zhao, and Leqi in Renzong. At that time, they were all minor officials in civil and military examinations. He was born in a poor family, and was tested by Renzong. He was talented and became the pillar of the country.

They thought of their kindness and asked to see Yu Liang, but Liang did not see him. Instead, they asked someone to say: "You have talents that can be used by the country. You should fulfill your duties loyally and live up to the emperor's favor."

This is where he served the public body.

In the 23rd year, the queen became ill and Sejong was in chaos. He abdicated and became the Supreme Emperor. Later, he became the Supreme Empress and passed on to Renzong.

Renzong ascended the throne, changed the Yuan Dynasty to Chengde, appointed the chief minister of the cabinet, Liang as the chief minister of the cabinet, and promoted to the second rank.

In the first year of Chengde, the Japanese country was in chaos. General Zhengbei sent troops to conquer the country. A sudden storm occurred and the grain ship was damaged. At that time, the army was conquering the Japanese country. The food and grass were not available, so the army was in a hurry. Liang Nai urgently recruited the Yangzhou navy to go north, and teamed up with Gong Qiao. The hospital established a fleet of trucks to transport grain, but the difficulty was solved, and the Japanese state was at peace.

Next year, the Supreme Empress died. Emperor Shizong was so sad that he cried all day long and could not eat.

Renzong persuaded, but they could not enter. The Empress Dowager persuaded, but they could not enter. Renzong led the ministers to persuade, but still did not enter. Liang Nai persuaded him, but he did not enter. Shizong personally erected a monument for the Supreme Empress and cried bitterly all day long. There was no official wife after that. .

Three years later, the Grand Canal was completed. Emperor Shizong was so happy that he went out to inspect the Grand Canal, and Liang followed him. He left Luoyang, passed through the Central Plains, and even reached Wu County. He met Guan Yu, the general who conquered the south. At that time, Yu was ill. Liang searched for famous doctors, and Yu recovered. It’s Xie Liang.

At the beginning, Emperor Shizong conquered Xianbei in the north and won a complete victory, capturing more than [-] people. However, the central Xianbei and part of the western Xianbei fled west to Wusun. Three years later, General Zhang Fei arrived, and Xianbei fled west again. The army pursued them. After failing to do so, I heard that the remnants of Xianbei had settled in the West Sea and gradually gathered together.

In the fourth year of Chengde, Liu Ze, the king of the Western Qin Dynasty, reported that he met the Xianbei people in the West Sea and fought with them, but it was not good. He said that Xianbei was on the verge of a resurgence and that there were no less than a hundred thousand people who controlled the strings. According to the West Sea, there were gradually Maodun and Tan. The power of Shihuai is here to ask for help.

At that time, Emperor Shizong visited Jiaozhou in the south and reached Rinan County. Most of the opinions from the government and the public were exaggerated, claiming that Xianbei had been defeated by Emperor Shizong. He was so frightened that he fled to the West Sea, which was not something to be afraid of. Moreover, the expedition to the West Sea was very expensive. It makes no sense to ask for help now.

Renzong was worried and asked Liang. Liang suspected that Renzong was exaggerating. Renzong said, "He is my younger brother. He is honest and has no deception."

Liang Nai said: "I don't know how many thousands of miles there are from the West Sea to Luoyang. The Xianbei people have been escaping from their land for 20 years since the early years of Zhenguan. The ancients have gone through all the changes in the sea and they don't know the age. In the past, they fled far away in embarrassment, but now they are strong again." The Western Qin Kingdom guarded the western frontier for the Han Dynasty, which was the hard work of the Supreme Emperor. Today, the Supreme Emperor is patrolling Jiaozhou in the south. He does not know about this matter. What will he do if he learns about it?
Renzong could not give up, so he called a court meeting and spoke loudly to the ministers, but the ministers were speechless. Renzong used Liang's words as a good idea and ordered Zhang Fei, the general of the Western Expedition, to lead his troops for reinforcements. The result was as Ze said, Xianbei invaded the Western Qin Kingdom with [-] string-controllers. Ze fought with Feili and defeated Xianbei. They chased them to the bank of the West Sea and wiped out all their people. This is the first bright achievement.

In October of the eighth year of Chengde, the governor of Yangzhou reported that the Huaihe River was frozen, which shocked the government and the public. At that time, Emperor Shizong had not returned from his southern tour of Yunzhou. When Liang heard about it, he stroked his beard and sighed and said: This is the result of the emperor’s decades of work. Decades ago, the emperor’s Unexpectedly, today, everyone says that I am a heavenly being, but do you really not know that the Supreme Emperor is a heavenly being?
When Zong Gui came back later, when he talked about this matter, he smiled and said: I have a foresight, but without your help, how could I be here today?
Liang said: Without the kindness of the Supreme Emperor, I would not be able to serve the country. How dare I forget the kindness of the Supreme Emperor?
Shizong smiled and said nothing.

At that time, Shizong was often ill in his later years. He missed the past and missed his old friends, but the old friends were far away. Shizong often cared about them and couldn't smile. He wanted to go out to visit his old friends, but the holy body was difficult to rest. Renzong was extremely filial and worried, so he asked Yu Liang for advice.

Liang Nai said: The Supreme Emperor attaches great importance to friendship and misses his old friends. His old friends Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, Qianzhao, etc. have all been guarding the border for more than ten years and rarely get together. Therefore, the Supreme Emperor is not happy. If they can be ordered to return, it may make the Supreme Emperor happy.

Renzong thought it was a good idea, so he missed the emperor during his illness, and ordered Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, Qianzhao and others to take up their posts in the court, and also appointed Jiang Wei, Deng Ai, Le Qi and others to take over their duties.

When Yu and others entered the court, they were reunited with Shizong. Shizong was overjoyed and went out of the city to welcome him. He wrote a poem, which said: The black hair leaves Zhuojun, the white head returns to Luoyang. 50 years have been like a dream, and they will finally be reunited.

Then he had feasts every day, and he and Yu and others gave lectures on imperial studies and military studies to the students. Unexpectedly, he recovered from his illness. Renzong was so happy that he told Liang: "I know the emperor."

Liang was diligent and thrifty. Although he was in a high position, his food, clothing, housing and transportation were like those of ordinary people. He did not like luxury. He depended on officials for everything he needed and did not own any property. He also made his children farm and study, and personally taught farming techniques. He never had the luxury of wearing fine clothes.

When Liang entered the court, he worked hard, and when he returned home, he entertained himself by playing the piano and cooking tea. Renzong praised Liang for his upright conduct and was often rewarded. He also relied on the kindness of Liang's two sons. The Supreme Emperor and Your Majesty have such a gracious encounter? Then he became more diligent and frugal.

In June of the tenth year, Liang became seriously ill as an official. Renzong sent the imperial doctor to take care of him. In February, he still did not recover. When Shizong was sixty-five years old, he went to Liang's house to personally prepare the decoction and medicine. He also supported Liang in his arms and gave him medicine. After more than ten days of this, without leaving the house, Liang Nai recovered from his illness.

Later generations taught Liang the art of Ba Duan Brocade and ordered Liang to practice it constantly without stopping for a day. Liang obeyed the order and did not dare to disobey it.

In September of the 11th year, Shizong Yiliang had profound knowledge and good conduct, so he appointed Liang as the crown prince and grand master. At that time, Ruizhong was the prince, and Shizong Yiliang was appointed as the master of Rui. He ordered Ruizhong to learn from Yu Liang and hold the disciple ceremony.

In August of the 14th year, Emperor Shizong was seriously ill. Renzong and Ruizhong were sick, but they could not recover. During his illness, he thought brightly and went out to patrol the Grand Canal. When he heard about it, he galloped back on his horse and went to see Emperor Shizong.

When Shizong saw the light, he was overjoyed. He held his hands and said, "I don't have much time left, and I don't think about anything else. I only think about the common people in the world. I hope you will not forget your original intention and keep in mind the way you came. In this way, I will have a smile on my face."

Liang shed tears and kowtowed, saying: "As long as I have one breath left, the mountains and rivers of the Han Dynasty will not be in harm's way."

In September, Emperor Shizong passed away. Liang fainted with tears and blood, and his family was in panic. He died in a few days.

Renzong was extremely filial and worried about his father's death. He was ill and unable to manage affairs, so he ordered Liang to assist in supervising state affairs as the head of the cabinet. Liang continued to supervise state affairs for more than three months, until Renzong recovered from his illness, and there was no problem.

Later, Renzong became ill and gradually neglected affairs. He mostly used Liang to supervise state affairs, and Ruizong entrusted Liang to Liang. Liang had full power, or he said that Liang had the actual status of emperor but not the name of emperor. The words reached Renzong's ears, and Renzong laughed and said: My father's eyes are like torches, and he sees people without any difference, so I have no worries.

In the 20th year of Chengde, Renzong died, and Ruizong was ordered to succeed him, and he was changed to Yongyuan, supplemented by Liang.

Ruizhong was twenty years old. He was close to Liang and entrusted him with state affairs. Liang fulfilled his duties loyally, acted impartially, did not show favoritism, and did not bend the law. He was respected both inside and outside the court.

In the third year of Yongyuan, the king of the Western Jin Dynasty passed away and ordered his legitimate son Zhiyuan to ascend the throne. Zhiyuan was young at that time, and his eldest son Zhiyuan refused to obey because of his youth and started an army to cause chaos. Zhiyuan asked for help from Luoyang.

When Emperor Ruizong heard about it, he asked Liang, and Liang said: There are direct descendants, but there are no direct descendants. This is the rule. When Shizong was still alive, he often discussed this matter with his ministers. This was obtained by the blood of his ancestors. Although there are shortcomings, he still decided this. According to the rules, if one knows something far away and succeeds, everyone will imitate it, fight for power and profit, and kill blood relatives. The foundation will be shaken and the country will be in chaos. In this way, isn't it a failure of Shizong's hard work?

Ruizong thought it was a good idea, so he ordered the general Jiang Wei to conquer the west. After fighting for one month, he defeated Zhiyuan and spread the news to Luoyang. The state of the Western Jin Dynasty was safe. After hearing this, all the feudal states came to Luoyang to express their congratulations.

Ruizong was intelligent, good at mathematics, craftsmanship, and navigation, just like his ancestors. He often asked Liang about government affairs, but ignored the affairs. The filial empress dowager was worried about him, and ordered Liang to inquire about him. Liang regarded Ruizong in Gongqiao Academy, and studied navigation instruments with Ruizong. , Liang is longer than this, Ruizong is happy.

The Queen Mother was angry and scolded Liang and Ruizong for neglecting government affairs.

Ruizong was worried, and Liang Nai said: Your Majesty is smart and good at craftsmanship, just like the previous emperors and Shizong. During the reign of Emperor Shizong, he tried to improve the techniques of forging iron and papermaking, and made fire oil tanks, trebuchets, and printing. He built many buildings. However, There is no name for neglecting government affairs. Does your Majesty know why?

Ruizhong asked Yu Liang, and Liang said: Although Shizong was good at this, he also regarded it as an important weapon of the country. However, Shizong was the king of a country. He considered governing the country as more important than academics. There is nothing wrong with liking craftsmanship. However, your majesty is a monarch. , instead of craftsmanship, governance should be the priority.

I am also good at this. However, I know that Shizong, the late emperor and your majesty have placed great trust in me, and I dare not have any selfish interests. Therefore, I put governance first and craftsmanship second. Your majesty can always pay attention to it and allocate funds to encourage it. If there is skill, If you think about it, you can also tell that professional things have their own professional people.

Ruizong thought he was good, and later paid more attention to the administration of the court. When the Queen Mother heard about it, she gave him a generous gift to Liang.

In the sixth year, the governor of Rinan County reported that Zhang Yun, the governor of Yunjiao Prefecture, was corrupt. Yun and Liang were both civil servants and had always been good friends. Liang's daughter and Yunzi were married. The corruption case was reported and the government and the public were in an uproar. Ruizong could not put an end to it, so he asked Liang.

Liang sobbed and said: "The national law is like a mountain and does not tolerate favoritism, but please ask the three departments to review it."

Ruizhong followed this and held a meeting of three judges. The evidence was as solid as a mountain. He said that he had corrupted 13 silver coins and more than [-] million copper coins. This was unprecedented since Emperor Shizong's revival. He was so angry that he went to the imperial edict and denounced him. He asked for strict punishment, so he followed the Han Dynasty. The law talks about death.

One might say that even though he is corrupt, he is still a capable minister, has made meritorious deeds, and is friendly with Liang. If he seizes his post and is dismissed, why bother talking about death?
Liang cried and said: The national law is like a mountain and does not tolerate favoritism. If I show favoritism and have a spirit after death, how can I see Shizong and the late emperor? If Shizong and the late Emperor ask, is the country solid? How should I answer?

Ruizong heard about it and praised it deeply, and often entrusted Yu Liang with important matters.

In June of the 14th year, he became seriously ill, and he still supervised the transportation of grain from the south to the north. His illness gradually became serious, and many people tried to persuade him, but he refused. Even Ruizong tried to persuade him, but he also refused. In September, he died as an official with a lifespan of seventy.

Ruizong was so sad that he left the court for ten days. He went to the Liang Mansion personally, put on a sackcloth and paid filial piety, held the coffin and cried loudly. He fainted several times. He gave him the posthumous title Wenzhong, and he was worthy of enjoying the Shizong Temple. He also ordered a temple to be built in Yangdu for Liang.

From then on, every time he died, he would take a bath and change his clothes, hold disciples' rites, and bow to Xuzhou for 40 years until the end of his life.

At the beginning, Liang said to Ruizong: There are [-] acres of thin farmland in Yangdu, and [-] acres of fertile land in Luoyang given by Shizong and the late emperor. The children have enough food and clothing to farm and study, and there is no need for generous rewards. As for ministers serving abroad, There is no difference in arrangements. I carry my food and clothing with me, and I look up to the official. I don’t care about life, and I take care of myself. On the day of my death, I don’t have any leftover silk inside or money outside, so as to betray His Majesty.

And died, just as he said.

The children of Liang's family were restrained by him, and they did not manage the property. They cultivated, studied and passed down the family and became famous.

Later Ruizhong once said: When Duke Ge was still alive, he did not notice the difference. After his death, he did not see any comparison with him, so he did not appoint a chief assistant in the cabinet and replaced him with a second assistant. In the end of Ruizong's life, there was no chief assistant in the cabinet.

Liang had two sons, both of whom entered official positions through imperial examinations. They were not influenced by their father and had a reputation as a virtuous person.

During the reign of Liang, the second son was the county guard, the eldest son Zhan was in Liaozhou, and the second son Wangguan was in Yunzhou. They had political achievements and a distinguished official reputation, and were loved by their elders.

Ruizhong thought that both of his sons were talented and wanted to serve as imperial officials, but Liang dissuaded him, saying that in the past, Sejong used his sons to develop the country and win the trust of the people. Although Liang was not as heroic as Sejong, he was still willing to imitate Sejong, so he lived forever. He was unable to serve as an official in the court, and rarely returned home, mostly communicating through letters.

Looking back later, I hope that Ruizong will love him and use him seriously. He will be promoted to the second assistant in the cabinet, and he will be the secretary of the Ministry of household affairs. He will obey the law and do nothing against the law. People at that time praised Liang for his good management of the family and called him one of the three outstanding figures of Zhuge.

A veteran of the three dynasties of the Liang Dynasty, he was promoted to Emperor Shizong and accepted by Emperor Renzong. In the 14th year since his admission, Liang had been in charge of state affairs for twenty years, appeasing the people, showing rituals, appointing officials, obeying authority, being sincere and imparting justice.

Those who are loyal and beneficial will be rewarded even if they are cheated; those who break the law and neglect will be punished even if they are close to each other; those who admit guilt and lose love will be released even if they are serious; those who use rhetoric and clever words will be killed even if they are trivial; good deeds will not be rewarded if they are insignificant; evil will not be degraded if they are not trivial. The common things are refined, the physics is the foundation, the names are responsible, the hypocrisy is despised.

Finally, within the country, they are feared and loved, and outside the country, everyone respects and respects them. Although the punishment and administration are severe, there is no resentment, because their intentions are calm and the admonitions are clear. King Shizong, Renzong, and Ruizong love him, it can be said that he A talented person who knows how to govern is just like Guan and Xiao.

Since ancient times, there is nothing better than this.
